Weekend review; March 7 and 8, 2009

What a great weekend! The weather was sunny and highs in the low 80's! It felt like late spring. But we still have 2 weeks until spring gets here!
I reviewed 3 cigars this weekend. They were all pretty good, scoring in the 90's. They are:
  • Montecristo Reserva Negra Toro
  • CAO L'Anniversaire Perfecto
  • Joya De Nicaragua Celebracion Gordo

Montecristo Reserva Negra Toro (6x54)

Box pressed. Very dark cigar. Nice looking and well made for the most part; had a few bumps. There was sweet spice with a touch of pepper. Nice finish with sweet notes and pepper. There were vanilla undertones. Pretty good maduro cigar. Full bodied. JR's has them for $162 for a box of 20.
Score: 91

CAO L'Anniversaire Maduro Perfecto (6x50)

Very cool looking cigar! Square pressed, too. Dark maduro. Nice spice with a dash of pepper. Dark chocolate flavor. The finish is long and sweet. There are even buttery notes in this cigar! That's a first for me, but they're there. Very nice cigar. Medium to full bodied. Really liked it!

Score: 92

Joya De Nicaragua Celebracion Gordo (5.5x60)

Very fat cigar. Torpedo shaped cap. There was a tremendous amount of spice with a touch of pepper at light up. Heavy vanilla notes. Very nice tastes in this cigar! It's a very slow burning cigar, too. It lasted me almost 2 hours! The burn was a little off at midpoint but that may have been my fault. I touched it up once and it was fine after that. Very enjoyable cigar. Medium bodied.
Score: 93
