Inferno Flashpoint Robusto (5 x 52)

Video review HERE.

The Inferno Flashpoint is the newest version of the Inferno. I reviewed the original Inferno 2 years ago. That cigar earned an impressive 92 rating. This version is also made by Oliva. It is a limited production cigar and a new version will be released each year. When this year's version is sold out it will not be reproduced. You'll have to wait until next year to try that version. Today I am reviewing the robusto version of the Flashpoint.

Wrapper: Ecuadorian Sumatra
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan

The cigar is well made and a medium brown in color. It has a nice density.

The test draw after cutting the cap was very good. The initial flavors were sweet cedar, nutmeg, and roasted nuts. The pepper is rated at a 7.5. The finish is one of roasted nuts and light sweetness with some nice lingering pepper. The pepper is a white pepper.

About 3/4 inch in I am completely satisfied with my initial assessment. The finish that I was having trouble with is as I stated; a roasted nut with minimal sweetness and lingering pepper. That's it! The cigar is medium bodied.

At, or near the band (about 2 inches in) the flavors are about like they were at the beginning. The order of flavors in intensity are sweet cedar, roasted nuts, and the nutmeg is the third place flavor. The finish now has a little sweet cream and a lot of roasted nuts.

With about 1 1/2 inches remaining there is now a lower level flavor of coffee. To be honest, it has been there all the time but it's not as noticeable as the roasted nuts. The coffee is after, or below, the roasted nuts. The main front end flavors seem to jockey between which is more prevalent than the other. The cigar is still medium bodied. The finish is unchanged.

As the cigar ended the flavor notes were about the same. These cigars are around $6 apiece which is about twice what the original Inferno's were. These are limited edition also. These are quite different from the originals. To me, these don't have the pop of the originals. I prefer the originals to these but if you like sweet cedar and heavy roasted nuts you may like these. Don't get me wrong, these are very good but the originals impressed me a little more. See the link below to purchase either these or the originals. You can't go wrong with either.

Score: 89
