CAO Wicked Winter (6 1/2 x 52)

Video review HERE.

CAO has rolled out its annual Christmas / Winter Themed releases for 2015; the CAO Wicked Winter and the CAO Stingy Scrooge. This marks the third consecutive year CAO has done a seasonal release. I reviewed the Stingy Scrooge a week ago.

Here is a picture of both cigars side by side.

The Wicked Winter has a nice feel in the hand; feels dense.

The test draw after cutting the cap was very good. The initial flavors were a sweet, tangy orange citrus with underlying boysenberry notes, brown sugar, and a bread-like flavor with a low level black coffee at the base. There was black pepper rated at a 7 1/2.

Once inch in the flavors are an extremely sweet orange citrus that reminds me of a baby aspirin that we had as kids, mixed with brown sugar with white chocolate and coffee notes at the base. The finish is a brown sugar/cream combination with low amounts of lingering pepper. The cigar is medium bodied.

At the midpoint we are already over one hour in! The flavors are about the same but the amounts of each flavor have changed. The sweet orange citrus is still the lead flavor but there has been a large increase of brown sugar and coffee. The white chocolate is still there to give a little added sweetness. There is also some dry wood in the flavor mix. The cigar is still medium bodied and the finish is unchanged.

The cigar ended at almost 2 hours! Amazing. Incredible burn time. The flavors are just like the last segment; sweet orange citrus that seemed to be turning to sweet cedar, heavy brown sugar and coffee notes. The dry wood went away and the white chocolate was subtle. This was a cigar with heavy sweetness but it lacked power. That was the only negative. You could easily have this as a morning cigar. I enjoyed this cigar more than the Stingy Scrooge but both are pretty good cigars. The lack of significant power held the score down a bit for me but I found this to be a very good, sweet cigar.

Score: 91
