Davidoff Escurio Robusto Tubo (4 1/2 x 54)

Video review HERE.

(portions of description below taken from Cigar-Coop.com website.)
In a recent report by Cigar Aficionado, the name Escurio is derived from two words “Escuro” (the Portuguese word for “dark” or “oscuro”) and Rio (i.e. Rio De Janiero, the city in Brazil that inspired this blend).

“Get ready for an exciting taste adventure! Rio’s intriguing and rhythmic nights were hugely inspiring for our Master Blenders in helping craft a superb multi-origin blend with the finest Brazilian tobaccos at its core. Davidoff Escurio will take aficionados along on a rewarding taste exploration where sweet meets spice with unexpected twists and turns along the way,” commented Charles Awad, Senior Vice President Global Marketing & Innovation at Oettinger Davidoff AG in a press release.

The cigar is not a Brazilian puro, but contains a good amount of Brazilian tobacco in the blend. The wrapper of the Davidoff Escurio is described as “dark” Habano Ecuador.

Wrapper: Habano Ecuador
Binder: Brazilian Cubra
Filler: Dominican (San Vicente, Piloto andOlor/Piloto Seco), Brazilian (Cubra and Mata Fina)
Country of Origin: Dominican Republic

The Davidoff Escurio is being launched in three sizes.  The Robusto Tubo and Gran Toro sizes will come in 12 count boxes.  The Short Coronas will come in 14 count boxes..  There also will be four cigar packs for each size.

Short Robusto: 3 1/4 x 50 (SRP $8.50)
Robusto Tubo: 4 1/2 x 54 (SRP $15.90) REVIEWED TODAY
Gran Toro: 5 1/2 x 58 (SRP $17.90)

I purchased this cigar at the Davidoff shop in New York City. For such a short cigar it has a nice feel in the hand. The cigar is very well made and has an oily wrapper.

The test draw was very good after cutting the cap. The initial flavors were a high pitched, sweet boysenberry and a lot of cream notes. There were also a lot of dark roasted coffee notes. The pepper was a ground black pepper rated at a 7 1/2.

About one inch in the flavors are about like I got initially. Now the cream is more of a whipped cream, which is sweeter to combine with the sweet boysenberry notes. The coffee notes are much more pronounced, as well as the black pepper which is now an 8+. The finish is one of a whipped cream finish with a ton of black pepper. The cigar is medium bodied at this point.

2 inches in the burn is very even. The flavors are about the same but now I am getting a little light butter on the front end. The cigar is still medium bodied. The finish is unchanged.

There were no changes to the end. The star of this cigar is the black pepper. It is very nice. The front end flavors of boysenberry, whipping cream and butter were very pleasing. This was a smooth cigar. The cigar remained medium bodied. For those of you who like Davidoff cigars will like this cigar and if you are like me and love black pepper you will also love it!

I picked up this cigar at the Davidoff Shop in New York City and while there met Amber Denny, who helped me with my selections. If you're in New York City and visit the Davidoff shop please say hello to her.
