La Aurora 1987 Connecticut Robusto (5 x 50)

Video review HERE.

La Aurora is celebrating their 113 years in existence. This is the second of the two cigars produced to commemorate the anniversary. This is the 1987 Connecticut Robusto.

The La Aurora 1987 sports a Connecticut shade grown wrapper, over a Dominican binder, and Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers.

La Aurora offers the 1987 Connecticut in four sizes, each in 20 count boxes: Robusto (5 x 50), Churchill (7 x 50), Toro (5 1/2 x 54) and Gran Toro (6 x 58). The low MSRP of $5.50 to $6.00 is to pay tribute to the consumers who have supported La Aurora for 113 years.

The cigar is a golden color. It has an average feel in the hand for a robusto.

The test draw after cutting the cap was effortless. (Note: I had an apple prior to smoking this cigar in hopes it would help bring out the flavors) The initial flavors were a thick, white chocolate, brown sugar, and a sweet cedar. There was black pepper rated at a 7 1/2 or 8; nice amount. Nice start.

Close to an inch in and you can add 2 additional flavors; cinnamon and coffee. The finish is a toasted cream with a generous amount of lingering black pepper. The black pepper is a surprise in this cigar. The white chocolate is very thick and sweet. The brown sugar and cinnamon make it even better. The cedar and coffee add a nice touch. The cigar is mild to medium at this point.

At the midpoint the ash was still intact. It was tight and showed no sign of dropping. The flavors are about the same. They are nice and sweet. The sweetness is very sweet with a touch of richness. The cedar is somewhat subdued. The black pepper continues to be very good. Again, I am surprised at the amount of black pepper in this cigar. The cigar is moving toward medium bodied.

With 1 1/2 inches remaining I noticed a little dry wood in the flavors. It takes away a little sweetness in the sweeter flavors. The cigar is still very sweet, just not quite as sweet. The cigar continues to be medium bodied with nice black pepper.

The cigar ended as it was in the last segment. The cigar ended at medium bodied. The white chocolate notes gradually went away leaving the brown sugar, cinnamon, and cedar. The black pepper continued to be good. The finish was pretty much unchanged. This was not a typical Connecticut cigar with the large amount of black pepper and plenty of sweet flavors. Look for these now and give them a try. Possibly as a morning cigar or have it any time.

Score: 91

Great review! I've got to ask you where you find some of the cigars. I have no luck finding them anywhere. Are you willing to share your supplier? For that price I have to get my hands on a couple

Local shops should have them. They came out a month or so ago. You might have to look around your area or check online. They're out there.
