In the five years since its launch, Partagas 1845 remains one of the most successful brands in the handmade cigar category. Today, the collection’s three distinct blends have been completely updated with deeper, richer taste profiles, and modernized with a new look and feel. Each of the three Partagas 1845 lines continues to pay homage to the heritage of Partagas by featuring the hallmarks of the brand – the finest, hand selected tobaccos, meticulous construction and an exquisite array of flavors.

Andres Maturen, brand manager for Partagas said, “Within the Partagas portfolio, the 1845 franchise stands apart for its ability to bridge the brand’s rich heritage and symbolism with contemporary influences. We’ve continued along this path by reimagining Partagas 1845 with a modern lens. The new Partagas 1845 blends give a nod to the brand’s storied history while delivering added complexity and more competitive pricing to resonate with discerning smokers of today.”

The newly-revamped lines will be offered at lower price points than the original Partagas 1845 lines, and will ship in mid-August.

A medium-bodied collection available in four vitolas, Partagas 1845 Clásico is a four-country blend beginning with a lustrous Ecuadoran Sumatra wrapper, draped over a Connecticut Broadleaf binder. The blend features hand-selected leaves from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. With the new Partagas 1845 Clásico, cigar lovers can now expect to enjoy a more profound smoking experience.

The cigar has an average feel in the hand for a robusto of this size.

The test draw after cutting the cap was a bit firm but workable. The initial flavors were a tangy cedar with some citrus notes,  brown sugar, black coffee, and black pepper rated at a 7 1/2 to 8.

1 1/2 inch in (20 minutes) there are nice caramel notes in the mix. And, in place of the citrus notes there are strawberry notes to go along with the sweet cedar. There are still brown sugar and black coffee notes. The pepper remains good. The cigar is mile to medium at this point. The finish is a sugary sweet cream with a touch of lingering black pepper. Although this is not a powerful cigar it has plenty of sweetness.

At the midpoint (35 minutes) I noticed white chocolate on the tail end of the draw as you expel the smoke. You still have the strawberry/cedar combination, caramel, and black coffee. I think the caramel was giving me the brown sugar flavor so I'm deleting brown sugar and sticking with caramel as the descriptive flavor. There is also still the minor amount of white chocolate. The pepper on the retro hale is very good. The finish is unchanged. The lingering black pepper is up. The cigar is now medium bodied.

With about 2 inches remaining (50 minutes) the coffee and caramel notes are coming out much more. The strawberry/cedar is heavy on the strawberry now. I no longer get the white chocolate notes. The pepper continues to move up on the finish. The finish is now sweet cream with caramel notes. The cigar is still medium bodied. Retro haling is the way to go to get the best pepper on the front end.

The Partagas 1845 Clasico robusto lasted 1 hour 10 minutes. In the last inch or so I got roasted nut flavors. You might call them roasted almonds. The other front end flavors were still intact. The lingering black pepper is the one thing that improved as this cigar went along. The finish is unchanged. The strength is unchanged; medium. This is a good, basic cigar. Nothing outstanding but nothing too negative either. The only negative is it has very little power. If it were a medium to full bodied cigar it would have score a bit higher for me. As it is, it's a good morning cigar or possibly your last cigar of the day. Good basic cigar. You can give these a try by going HERE.
