Vegas de Santiago D8 Petit Robusto (4 x 50)

Video review HERE.

Vegas de Santiago is a boutique cigar company in Costa Rica that makes some amazing cigars. I have reviewed several over the years and all have been very good. This is a new creation by Marc Niehaus who is the son of Rudy Niehaus of Vegas de Santiago. The D8 is one of his premium blends. I have sampled some of the other sizes of these cigars but this is my first take on the Presidente, which is a very large cigar.

Yesterday I reviewed the Presidente size, which is 7 1/2 x 54. While the cigar was good it lacked significant richness and it took quite awhile for the richness materialized. It rated an 87. Many times smaller versions of a cigar blend take on a different amount of flavors and richness. I am very hopeful that this Petit Robusto is one of those.

Greatness and Prestige Ready to enter "The club of the greats"
Filler made with the best Carabbean tobacco. Binder from Ecuador. The wrapper is made out of a special habano 2000 leaf grown in Ecuador.

The cigar is well made and had nice density.

Unlike the Presidente this Petit Roubusto had a perfect draw. After initial light up the cigar had similar flavors as the Presidente but the flavors were much more rich; cedar, cream, coffee, and a very nice amount of pepper. Right away this cigar is starting nicely.

About 1/2 inch in this cigar has delivered! The richness is great. All the same flavors as the President but much more richness. Of course, this cigar had to deliver great flavor right away since it's so short. On a richness scale of 1-5 the cigar is now a 3. The finish is also very good; one of a sweet cream and some nice lingering pepper. Another thing you will notice with this cigar is the large amount of smoke this cigar produces. It has much more smoke than the Presidente.

About 1 1/4 inch in the richness has increased to a 4 out or 5. I love the sweet, creamy cedar this cigar has and the pepper is great. The finish is one of cream and lots of lingering pepper. The cigar is medium bodied.

With about 1 1/2 inches left the cigar continues to be fantastic. I am really enjoying this cigar. The richness continues. I love the sweet finish on this cigar.

To sum up this cigar it has been great. The sweet, rich cedar, cream, and coffee notes make this a very enjoyable cigar. Add to those the large amount of black pepper and you've got a winner. The finish of sweet cream and lingering pepper just makes it complete. I hope you get a chance to sample this cigar as you will not be disappointed.
