Warped Cigars Lirio Rojo 2017 (5 1/2 x 44)

Video review HERE.

The 2017 version (they come out in late December) of the Lirio Rojo is an all Aganorsa cigar. The wrapper, binder, and filler are all Aganorsa tobacco. It is available in one size, 5 1/2 x 44, just as last year's version. It is made in the Tabsa factory.

Wrapper: AGANORSA

Binder: AGANORSA

Filler: AGANORSA

Vitola: Corona (5 ½ x 44)

Factory: TABSA

The cigar is a medium brown and well made. Here is a shot of the foot.

The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors were a dry cedar, a lot of earthy black coffee, cinnamon, a touch of brown sugar, and quite a bit of the typical Aganorsa nutmeg/vegetable flavor, and red pepper which I rated at a 7. The finish at this early stage is one of nutmeg and cream with a decent amount of lingering black pepper, instead of red as on the front end.

2 inches in (20 minutes) I am noticing this year's version is not as sweet as last year's.  There is an ample amount of nutmeg which cancels out the sweetness from the brown sugar. You still have the dry cedar, red pepper, sprinkling of brown sugar, cinnamon, and a large amount of earthy black coffee. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is unchanged. With the lack of sweetness the first third score is 87.

At the midpoint (40 minutes) the brown sugar made a slight increase. The other flavors are still in play but the increase in the brown sugar was a welcome addition. The cigar is still medium to full bodied with the finish unchanged. The additional sweetness moved the cigar up to a midpoint score of 88.

The cigar lasted 56 minutes. At the end the sweetness seemed to revert back to the way it was in the first third. The flavors of dry cedar, cinnamon, brown sugar, nutmeg, and earthy black coffee are all good but there is an obvious lack of overall sweetness. Perhaps it is the abundance of Aganorsa tobacco holding the sweetness down. Nevertheless, this cigar is not as good as last year's version. I am a big fan of Aganorsa tobacco but the cigar has to have enough sweetness to overcompensate for the heavy nutmeg/vegetable flavors associated with the Aganorsa tobacco. With the sweetness falling back to the way it was in the first third the final third score is back to an 87. No doubt these cigars will go fast so give them a try and do your own comparison. See if you agree with me that this year's version is not as good as last year's. I was disappointed but I remain a huge fan of Warped Cigars.

Overall Score: 87
