Macanudo Inspirado Red Robusto (5 x 50)

Video review HERE.

The evolution of Macanudo continues with Macanudo Inspirado Red, a fiery new addition to the top-rated Inspirado portfolio. This bold, full-bodied offering represents the marriage of rich volcanic soil and profound aging techniques to achieve unmatched strength and refinement.

José de Castro, vice president of marketing for General Cigar’s Macanudo brand said, “As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Macanudo, we created Macanudo Inspirado Red to speak to the brand’s unique ability to adapt to the preferences of today’s cigar lovers. Nicaraguan cigars are hot right now. With ‘Inspirado Red,’ we show how nimble the brand can be by introducing a unique, Nicaraguan-forward blend to the line, while highlighting the expertise of the torcederos from our cigar factory in Esteli.”

Dressed in Ecuadoran Habano ligero and blended with rarefied tobaccos including twelve-year aged Nicaraguan Ometepe, ten-year aged Honduran Jamastran and five-year-aged Nicaraguan Esteli, Macanudo Inspirado Red has a hearty Nicaraguan Jalapa binder. Enticing notes of pepper and spice reign, transcending the experience of Central American tobaccos to the point of sublime.

Macanudo Inspirado Red is handcrafted at STG Esteli in Nicaragua and will be available throughout the U.S. in all channels beginning in late March. The line will debut with three frontmarks as detailed below, each presented in 20-count boxes:

Robusto: 5 by 50 (box pressed) – SRP per cigar is $6.49 REVIEWED TODAY

Toro: 6 by 50 – SRP per cigar is $6.99

Gigante: 6 by 60 – SRP per cigar is $7.49

The Macanudo Inspirado Red is very well made and a sharp box press. The cigar has an average feel in the hand for a robusto.

The test draw after cutting the cap was very good. The initial flavors were cedar/citrus combination, brown sugar, cream, milk chocolate, and black coffee. There was black pepper which I rated at a 7. There is a lot of sweetness in this cigar.

About 2 inches in (20 minutes) the cigar is getting a little darker. It's gone away from the milk chocolate flavor and is now a regular chocolate. There is also a lot of brown sugar and black coffee. You still have the cedar/citrus combination also. The lead flavors, by far, are the chocolate, brown sugar, and black coffee notes. There are some buttery notes intermingled in the chocolate also. The finish is one of chocolate with a nice amount of lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium bodied and leaning toward medium to full already. For the first third I rate this cigar a 93.

2/3 in (45 minutes) the cigar has lost nothing. Rich chocolate with buttery notes, brown sugar, citrus/cedar, and black coffee are your flavors. The cigar is medium to full bodied now. The finish is still one of chocolate. I really enjoy these flavors. The main flavors of chocolate, brown sugar, and coffee are very nice. The cedar/citrus combination just tops it off. For the second third I rate the cigar a 93.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 5 minutes. The cigar continued to be very good. In the final third I got a little charred cedar and also some light nutmeg notes. These did not hurt the cigar. The main flavors were just as the previous segment; sweet, buttery chocolate, brown sugar, and black coffee with lighter amounts of mainly charred cedar and nutmeg. The citrus notes seemed to give way to the cedar. The cigar ended at medium to full bodied. This is a very good cigar. The flavors mix in a fantastic way to create a sweet, dark noted delight. These should be available almost everywhere so do yourself a favor and pick them up. You can't beat the price either. Fantastic cigar from Macanudo. The final third score is 93. I'm not a fan of the brand in general, but based upon your review I'd like to try one. Nice review.
