Viaje Skull & Bones Ghost Rider (6 x 56)

Video review HERE.

For the better part of a decade, the Viaje Skull & Bones series for the most part have been named for after destructive bombs. This month the Skull & Bones series takes a different twist as three new releases hit the shelves – all three inspired by the Ghost Rider Marvel Comic Book characters.

Details of the blends have not been disclosed but it is believed the wrapper is a Criollo and the cigar is a Nicaraguan puro. The tobacco is believed to be Aganorsa.  All three blends are a 56 ring gauge: Johnny Blaze (6 x 56), Ghost Rider (6 x 56) REVIEWED TODAY, and Mephisto (6 1/2 x 56).

Each of the three offerings will be in 25-count soft bundles.

The cigar has a nice feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was very good. The initial flavors at light up were cedar, brown sugar, some cinnamon, a lot of an earthy nutmeg, cream, and a black coffee base. There seems to be a touch of caramel in the mix also. You will really notice the large amount of earthy nutmeg with light cream. The other notes come through but the nutmeg/cream notes are the majority.

At the first third (31 minutes) the cedar, brown sugar, and cinnamon are tasted first but then there is a blast of earthy nutmeg with light cream notes and a lot of black coffee and black pepper. The black pepper in this cigar is rated at an 8. The finish is a toasted cream and nutmeg with a nice amount of lingering black pepper. The cigar is a high grade medium bodied. This cigar is not as appealing to me as the Johnny Blaze. I rated the first third at 91.

At the second third (1 hour 12 minutes) the cigar seems to be stuck in second gear. The cedar is now light, the brown sugar is below average, a touch of cinnamon, lots of the earthy nutmeg with a touch of cream with some leather aspects, and black coffee. The black pepper is still pretty good. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is unchanged. The cigar is not hitting on all cylinders with me. I lowered the score to 90.

The cigar lasted a nice 1 hour 45 minutes. The final third was very much a copy of the second third. The same flavor notes continued. This is not a bad cigar but it does not have the flavor percentages that I look for. The heavy earthy nutmeg with leather aspects and light cream continued. The cigar ended at medium to full bodied. The finish was unchanged. This cigar is quite different from the Johnny Blaze and not in a good way. I maintained the rating of 90 for the final third.

Overall Score: 90.33
