Viaje Skull & Bones Mephisto (6 1/2 x 56)

Video review HERE.

(Description taken from Cigar-Coop.com website)
For the better part of a decade, the Viaje Skull & Bones series for the most part have been named for after destructive bombs. This month the Skull & Bones series takes a different twist as three new releases hit the shelves – all three inspired by the Ghost Rider Marvel Comic Book characters.

Details of the blends have not been disclosed, but this cigar is assumed to have a San Andres maduro wrapper. The cigar is made in the Aganorsa Leaf factory in Esteli so I am also assuming the binder and filler are Nicaraguan. All three blends are a 56 ring gauge but this cigar is 6 1/2 inches long and the Johnny Blaze and Ghost Rider are 6".

The cigar has a very dense feel in the hand. The foot is closed.

The test draw after cutting the cap was very good, even with the closed foot. The initial flavors at light up were dry cedar, brown sugar, a dash of cinnamon, quite a bit of chocolate fudge, quite a bit of black coffee and quite a bit of nutmeg. The nutmeg has a pasty feel. There was black pepper which I rated at 7 to 7 1/2. A dark start with some sweetness.

At the first third (36 minutes) the nutmeg has a very pronounced vegetable texture and flavor. There is a slight tangy flavor in the cedar. The brown sugar is a little subdued. The chocolate fudge combines with the vegetable type nutmeg to make an intriguing flavor. There is also a lot of a full bodied dark roasted black coffee. I don't have the light cinnamon notes anymore. The cigar is quite interesting from a maduro standpoint. The finish is chocolate, nutmeg, and a nice amount of lingering black pepper. At this point the cigar is just above medium bodied. I rated the first third at 94.

At the second third (1 hour 24 minutes) the cigar is very much a maduro cigar. I had a lot of the chocolate/chocolate fudge, black coffee, and the vegetable type nutmeg. But I had very little cedar or brown sugar. The cigar is now full bodied. It made quite a jump. The finish is unchanged. It's a very full bodied dark noted cigar with very little sweetness. But, in this case I find the cigar intriguing and interesting. Probably due to the vegetable nutmeg combining with the chocolate fudge. I lowered the second third score to 92.

The cigar lasted an amazing 1 hour 58 minutes. In the final third I lost most of the vegetable nutmeg and all the cedar and brown sugar leaving just the (now) dark chocolate and black coffee. The black pepper remained very good on both ends. The finish is by and large unchanged. The cigar is also very full bodied. The intrigue in the cigar is gone. It's just a dark noted cigar with no sweetness. I lowered the final third score to 88.

Overall Score: 91.33
