Viaje Skull & Bones Bruce Banner (5 1/4 x 56)

Video review HERE.

(Description taken from Cigar-coop.com website)
Fans of The Incredible Hulk will now have a limited edition cigar to look forward to. Viaje has shipped two new editions to its Skull & Bones Series – Bruce Banner and The Hulk.

Bruce Banner is a scientist who was exposed to gamma rays. As a result of being exposed to the radiation, when Banner is under stress he transforms into a large, green creature known as the Hulk.

No details of the blend have been disclosed. The Viaje Skull and Bones Bruce Banner is a 5 1/4 x 56 vitola while The Hulk is a larger 5 1/4 x 60 vitola. There are cigars that have been branded as “The Hulk” from Viaje that in the past have been released as limited shop exclusives to several retailers. Both cigars are packaged in 25-count bundles. The 60 ring gauge Skull & Bones Hulk features a green-colored Skull & Bones brand.

Today we take a look at the Bruce Banner.

The cigar sports the usual skull and bones emblem but the crosses or X's on the side are green. I suppose that is to designate the Hulk theme. The cigar has a nice feel in the hand but it is not as dense feeling as the Hulk. After all, this cigar is a smaller ring; 56.

The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were a very sweet, tangy, pronounced orange citrus, a lot of brown sugar and cinnamon, caramel, dry, thick nutmeg, and black coffee. There was black pepper rated at 7. This cigar is quite different from The Hulk. This cigar is starting off very sweet. Nice start.

At the first third (29 minutes) the nutmeg has gradually moved to the background. It gives the black coffee, which is light, some earthiness. The front end flavors of tangy, sweet orange citrus, brown sugar, caramel, and elevated cinnamon are still very much in play. The citrus and cinnamon seem to be combining. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish is one of citrus, brown sugar, and nutmeg with a nice amount of lingering black pepper. The cigar is very good at this point. I rated the first third 95.

As I moved through the second third (1 hour 11 minutes) the cigar changed. The nutmeg, which had been in the background started moving forward. Along with it the black coffee also rose. The sharp, sweet citrus notes held to just about the midpoint and then started to decrease. Or, you could say the nutmeg started to rise. The cigar still has sweetness but it's muffled by the increased nutmeg and black coffee. The cigar is medium to full bodied and seems to be moving up quickly. The finish has a lot more nutmeg. There is still some sweetness from citrus and brown sugar but they are dwarfed by the increased nutmeg. In the second third the cigar turned. It made a distinct turn toward increased nutmeg and black coffee. I rated the second third 92.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 34 minutes. Not nearly as long as The Hulk. The slightly smaller ring made a big difference and the blend of The Hulk may be very different also. In the final third the nutmeg and black coffee are very elevated. The trend continued. The citrus became more of a slightly citrus/more cedar flavor. There is still some sweetness but the overall scope of the cigar has changed. The cigar is now very full bodied, however. In this case the nutmeg took the fun out of the cigar in the final third. The finish is unchanged. The cigar started off fantastic and ended up underwhelming. I rated the final third 89.

Overall Score: 92
