Super Deluxe Robusto by Black Label Trading Co. (5 1/4 x 52)

Video review HERE.

(Description taken from Cigar-coop.com website)

The cigar features a San Andres Maduro wrapper over an Ecuadorian Habano binder and Nicaraguan fillers. The cigar is available in three box-pressed sizes: Petite Corona, Robusto, and Lancero. Each is available in 20-count boxes. Production is handled at Fabrica Oveja Negra in Estelí, Nicaragua.

“Super Deluxe highlights everything I love about bold tobacco. The combination of Nicaraguan fillers and Mexican wrapper work together to create a rich, dark, earthy profile, with subtle spice and layers of complex flavors,” said James Brown, creator of Black Label Trading Co. and partner at Fabrica Oveja Negra in a press release.

Distribution is handled by Oveja Negra Brands.

The cigar is very dark, almost black. It has an above average feel in the hand for a robusto.

The test draw after cutting the cap was very good. The initial flavors at light up were citrus, brown sugar, touch of cinnamon, underlying caramel, pasty nutmeg, sweet dark chocolate, and black coffee. The sweeter flavors are more subtle than the darker notes but the cigar has nice sweetness. There was a nice amount of black pepper rated at an 8. Nice start.

At the first third (25 minutes) there is a capsule of citrus, brown sugar, increased cinnamon, caramel, creamy nutmeg, dark chocolate, and black coffee. The creamy nutmeg is smoothing out the entire cigar. The sweet notes are not as sharp and they even affect the darker notes. When compared to the Bishops Blend or Nocturne this cigar does not have the "in your face" sweetness and flavors. The nutmeg has smoothed out this cigar. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish is citrus and brown sugar along with a lot of nutmeg that is also smoothing out the finish. There is quite a bit of lingering black pepper. I rated the first third 94.

Moving through the second third (48 minutes) the cigar is still very smooth but the sweeter notes seem to be popping their heads up a little. One thing that is unmistakable is the increase in black pepper. It has really moved up. I would say it's up to 9 and there is also more on the finish. The cigar is medium to full bodied; almost full bodied. With the uptick in sweetness and black pepper I raised the second third score to 95.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 4 minutes. In the final third the black coffee became very elevated. The dark chocolate is not very noticeable. The nutmeg has become dry. The front end flavors are now more of a cedar with light brown sugar, cinnamon, and light caramel. The black pepper is still quite elevated. The cigar is full bodied. The finish is unchanged. The cigar is not as sweet with the elevated black pepper and dry nutmeg. I rated the final third 93.

Overall Score: 94
