ADVentura The Explorer Torpedo (6 x 52)

Video review HERE.

(Description taken from adventuracigars.com website)

ADVentura - The Explorer, the first creation of Marcel Knobel (Cuba d'Oro – Fine Artisanal Cigars) and Henderson Ventura (Tabacalera William Ventura, Santiago DR).

The Adventura cigar line highlights the fictional travels of Adventura and McKay as they travel the world.

For The Explorer the Adventura website describes their adventures this way:

It was in 1490, when the young explorer ADVENTURA and his companion McKay left Europe with their crew and started on one of their greatest adventures. Not conquests or gold treasures were their desire - their passionate drive was to discover the unknown pleasures of this world. When they were stranded on the island Kiskeya in spring 1490 and the island’s natives came closer, they saw that they held a small smouldering fire in their hands, which came from a rolled, fragrant plant. Dry leaves of this herb were rolled and at one end it was glowing. At the other end the natives were drawing the smoke with great pleasure. This sensuous activity seemed to be very inspiring for the natives.

The cigar is nice looking and well made. It has an average feel in the hand.

The test draw after taking the minimum from the torpedo cap was very good. The initial flavors at light up were about as odd as I've ever experienced; citrus peel, steak, cocoa, and earthy black coffee. There was black pepper rated at 7 1/2. I fully expect things to settle down and change as we progress but those are some unusual initial flavors.

At the first third (33 minutes) the flavors have settled down into something more normal. They are now citrus peel, brown sugar, leather, cocoa, and a lot of earthy black coffee. The finish is citrus peel and cocoa with very good lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium bodied at this point. The cigar is somewhat intriguing due to it's unique flavor combinations, especially at the light up. I want to see if the cigar develops a little more. I rated the first third 90.

As I moved through the second third (1 hour) the cigar improved. The citrus peel and brown sugar now have a little of actual citrus note making it sweeter. The leather notes are still there but the cocoa notes are not. The earthy black coffee is in abundance. There are even nutmeg notes woven throughout the flavors which actually helps the cigar. The cigar is now medium to full bodied. The finish is citrus peel, light citrus, leather, and very good lingering black pepper. To me, the cigar improved. I rated the second third 92.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 25 minutes. Nothing much changed from the second third through the end. The citrus peel, citrus, and brown sugar are about equal in amount to the leather and earthy black coffee so the cigar is somewhat in balance. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is unchanged. I held 92 for the final third. Since this was the initial offering from Adventura I can see how this cigar would cause people to take note of them. It got many people's attention.

Overall Score: 91.33
