Nearly three years since their last appearance, the Viaje Skull and Bones FOAB has returned for 2022.
The FOAB is a Nicaraguan puro that uses a sun grown criollo wrapper. The FOAB first debuted in 2011.
The FOAB, which gets its name from a Russian bomb nicknamed Father of All Bombs
It is a 4 1/2 x 56 robusto.
The cigar is dark and a little larger ring than the MOAB. It has an average feel in the hand.
The test draw after cutting the cap was pretty good but it had a little firmness. The initial flavors at light up were citrus, citrus peel, apricot, nutmeg, leather, and black coffee. There was black pepper rated at 7 1/2. Definite difference between this cigar and the MOAB.
At the first third (30 minutes) I had a citrus/apricot combination with a little brown sugar, quite a bit of nutmeg, and a lot of leather and black coffee. The finish is nutmeg and apricot with pretty good lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium bodied at this point. This cigar is much darker than the MOAB. The sweeter notes seem to be close to the same amount as the MOAB but perhaps a little less. I rated the first third 92.
Moving through the second third (49 minutes) I had lighter amounts of citrus and apricot, quite a bit of pasty nutmeg, and a lot of leather and black coffee. It's odd but the cigar is still medium bodied. The finish is a lot of leather, very light apricot, and nutmeg with very good lingering black pepper. The cigar continues to get darker. I rated the second third 90.
The cigar lasted 1 hour 6 minutes. This cigar is quite different from the MOAB and it's not as appealing to me. Now I had, for the most part, nutmeg, leather, and black coffee with minor hints of apricot. No more citrus. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish has the slightest amount of apricot, a lot of nutmeg, leather, and black coffee, and very good lingering black pepper. The final third sort of lost me. I rated it 87.
