(Description provided by Forged Cigar Co.)

La Gloria Cubana Serie S, the first La Gloria Cubana blend with a Mexican wrapper, is expanding to include a Maduro-wrapped line is available now.

Cory Beardsley, assistant brand manager of La Gloria Cubana said, “Serie S Maduro is expertly blended, meticulously crafted and is made in the large-ring sizes that La Gloria is known for. We believe this new Maduro collection will be a well-received complement to Serie S.”

La Gloria Cubana Serie S is made with a deeply-fermented Mexican San Andrés Négro wrapper grown in potassium-rich volcanic soil. Following a proprietary fermentation process, the Serie S Maduro wrapper emerges with a rich complexity and deep hue. The wrapper rounds out the Nicaraguan binder and blend of Nicaraguan and Dominican filler tobaccos to deliver a well-rounded, medium-to-full-bodied smoking experience, brimming with notes of molasses, leather, earth and light spice.

La Gloria Cubana Serie S Maduro is handcrafted at the El Credito Cigar Factory in Santiago, Dominican Republic.

The line comes in three sizes, packed in bold black cabinet-style boxes that each house 24 cigars. Forged Cigar Company distributes the brand.

The cigar is very dark and dense feeling.

The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were a little deceiving. You would think there would be massive maduro-like notes but there wasn't. There were nice tangy citrus and peach notes, light brown sugar, light earthiness, and bakers chocolate. There were much more citrus and peach notes than bakers chocolate. There was black pepper rated at 7 1/2. Nice start.

At the first third (25 minutes) the ash is intact and the cigar is burning evenly. I still had the tangy orange citrus and peach. The brown sugar is coming out more. The bakers chocolate at the base is up a little but that's not a bad thing. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish is peach and bakers chocolate with good lingering black pepper. The cigar is very nice at this point. I rated the first third 94.

As I moved through the second third (52 minutes) black coffee entered the picture and there's a decent amount. The citrus and peach notes are a little downplayed due to the entrance of black coffee. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is hints of peach and bakers chocolate with very good lingering black pepper. The black pepper on the front end is now 8 and if you retrohale you'll really get it! I rated the second third 93.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 17 minutes. The cigar developed quite a bit of earthiness in the final third causing the sweet notes to be a little muffled. It is full bodied. The finish is unchanged. The earthiness hurt it a little. I rated the final third 92. This may be the best LGC I've had in many years. Well worth trying and don't be deceived by the "black" wrapper. It is not overly dark noted and doesn't reach full bodied status until the final third.

Overall Score: 93
