Dapper 10th Anniversary (6 x 54)

Video review HERE.

(Description taken from halfwheel.com website)

Dapper Cigar Co. has shipped a cigar created to commemorate the company’s 10th anniversary.

The aptly named 10th Anniversary is a 6 x 54 toro extra that uses an Ecuadorian corojo wrapper covering a binder and filler made up of tobacco grown in the Dominican Republic. The cigars are made at TABACALERA LA iSLA in the Dominican Republic. In an email, Ian Reith, founder of Dapper Cigar Co., told halfwheel that the cigars were aged for “almost exactly one year after they were rolled.”

Each cigar has an MSRP of $22 each. Only 1,000 boxes of 10 cigars will be released.

“(This cigar is) very unlike what we’ve done to this date,” said Reith. “Of the 4 different tobaccos used in this cigar, we’ve only used 1 of the varieties in a blend before.”

The cigar is nicely made and has a good feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were lime, citrus peel, apple, tanned leather, and earthy black coffee. There was black pepper rated at 7. The tanned leather gives an odd flavor when combined with the sweet notes.

At the first third (23 minutes) the same notes were in play along with some cashew notes that have filtered in. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish is one of light sweetness consisting of those lime, citrus peel, and apple notes with good lingering black pepper. The combination of the notes is a little odd to me but at this point the cigar isn't too bad. I rated the first third 93.

Moving through the second third (50 minutes) the cigar developed a lot more black coffee and earthiness. The cigar is still medium bodied. The finish is black coffee with a hint of sweetness and very good lingering black pepper. The increased black coffee and earthiness did not help. I rated the second third 90.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 21 minutes. There was some improvement in the final third. The sweet notes rebounded pretty well. There is still plenty of black coffee with earthiness. The cigar is still medium bodied. The finish is unchanged. I rated the final third 92. This cigar will appeal to a lot of people but it never hit me the way I'd hoped. Give it a try.

Overall Score: 91.67
