Mr. Punch's Wieners (6 x 50)

Video review HERE.

(Description provided by General Cigar)

Punch Cigars is excited to announce a new, hot-dog-themed cigar hitting the shelves just in time for Father’s Day. The new cigar, Mr. Punch’s Wieners, is a limited-edition 6” X 50 double-headed parejo that can be lit from either end. It features a Dark Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, a US Broadleaf binder, and Dominican, Honduran, and Nicaraguan fillers. In addition, one-half of the cigar contains rare Dominican Andullo filler tobacco that was fermented in palm tree pods for two years. It was produced at HATSA in Honduras. Mr. Punch’s Wieners delivers tasting notes of sweetness, spice, and dark wood.

Scott Abney, Brand Manager for Punch, said, “Mr. Punch’s Wieners may have a funny name. And a funny shape. But this blend is no joke. Loaded with rich tobaccos and rounded at both ends to offer two unique smoking experiences, Mr. Punch’s Wieners is the perfect gift for Father’s Day and a cigar you’ll want to come back to all summer long.”

Mr. Punch’s Wieners will be sold in packs of 10. SRP per 10-pack is $69.99.  It is available in a single shape — a double-headed 6” X 50 parejo.

The cigar is dark brown and has a nice feel in the hand. Since both ends are closed there is no density shot.

The test draw after cutting the cap that I chose and a little off the foot to allow for a draw was peach, orange citrus, cedar, brown sugar, hits of toffee and red pepper, and black coffee. There was black pepper rated at 7 1/2. Pretty good start.

At the first third (29 minutes) I had peach, a little citrus, brown sugar, red pepper, black pepper, and black coffee and hints of toffee. The cigar is medium bodied. It cigar has nice sweetness. The finish is black coffee with very good lingering black pepper. I'm enjoying this cigar. I'm not sure if it's a serious cigar or gimmick but the bottom line is it's pretty good at this point. I rated the first third 94.

Moving through the second third (54 minutes) I had citrus, brown sugar, and a lot of black coffee. The peach notes have moved on. I think the Andullo tobacco is kicking in. The cigar is getting more dark noted. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish is black coffee with very good lingering black pepper. At this point the cigar seemed to lose something. I rated the second third 93.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 19 minutes. Apparently I was getting into the Andullo tobacco but once fully in the cigar got full bodied. The black coffee was quite pronounced and the citrus and brown sugar got somewhat intense. Almost like they got a little richness to them. The notes are actually working well together. The finish is unchanged. I rated the final thirds 94. It's like smoking 2 different cigars. It makes some pretty big changes. You can't beat the price point. This is a good cigar that should not be missed, no matter what the name is. (and the name is funny, let's agree)

Overall Score: 93.67
