Lure Cigars The Last Cast (6 x 54)

Video review HERE.

(Description taken from Halfwheel.com website)

Lure Cigars has announced that it has released the second edition of its The Last Cast limited edition, a cigar created to honor Lou Cross Jr., the father of brand owner Lou Cross.

The cigar is a 6 x 54 toro that uses a Connecticut broadleaf wrapper, a binder grown on the island of Ometepe in Nicaragua, and fillers that come from the EsteĆ, Condega, and Ometepe regions of Nicaragua, which Cross said is a slightly stronger blend than last year’s release. The company is not disclosing the factory producing the cigar, but it did say that production is limited to 4,500 cigars.

The cigar is dark and well made. It has a nice feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were apple, a little brown sugar, tanned leather, dark chocolate, and black coffee. There was black pepper rated at 7 1/2. Pretty good start but the sweetness is low.

At the first third (27 minutes) I had faint apple, a little brown sugar, quite a bit of dark chocolate, a little tanned leather, and faint black coffee. The black pepper is still good at 7 1/2, possibly more. The finish is dark chocolate with very good lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium bodied. The cigar doesn't have a lot of sweetness but it has a lot of dark chocolate. I rated the first third 92.

As I moved through the second third (56 minutes) not much changed. The sweet notes seem to be trying to move up but they haven't moved much. The dark chocolate is too much for them. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is unchanged. I held the score of 92.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 26 minutes. The black coffee, which has been in the background up to this point, has made a surge forward.  It has matched the amount of dark chocolate. The only sweet notes are faint brown sugar. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is unchanged. I rated the final third 90. This cigar has a lot of dark notes with low levels of sweetness.

Overall Score: 91.33
