Tobacco Merchant anniversary/weekend review (May 22 & 23, 2010)

We started off Friday evening with a quick trip to the Tobacco Merchant to attend the Oliva event hosted by Mike Walters. This was also the one year anniversary of Bill Slicer's ownership of the Tobacco Merchant. Congrat's on your first year Bill!

Since the bedroom painting project is STILL in progress I have not had much time to sit around on Saturday's and concentrate on my cigar reviews but I managed to find just enough time to do these 2:

  • La Flor Dominicana Ligero robusto
  • Cuban Crafters Cubano Claro churchill

La Flor Dominicana Ligero robusto (4 1/2 x 48)

This cigar was supplied by  Cigars Direct . The cigar started off with heavy notes of leather, black coffee, pepper and spice. 1/2" in it had light sweet citrus notes with a staple of black pepper. The finish was very long with notes of almonds and vanilla. Cinnamon notes appeared after 1". The burn was perfect! Very full bodied. Great powerful short smoke!

Score: 91

Cuban Crafters Cubano Claro churchill (7x48)

This is one of the cigars sent to us for the S.C. Sit Down held in April. The Cuban Crafters Cubano Claro is triple capped.

It was a light brown in color.  The box it came in is actually a humidor. It came equipped with a hygrometer and humidification device. The cigar started off with intense spice and cinnamon/citrus notes with nice pepper. The finish was long with lightly sweet vanilla notes. Medium bodied. The cinnamon and citrus spice is VERY pleasing. The finish is fantastic. At the 1/3 point the flavor was more of a vanilla tone with citrus notes. At the midpoint the cinnamon notes came back to the forefront. A very good cigar from Cuban Crafters!

Score: 92
