This Arturo Fuente 8-5-8 natural cigar provide by CigarsDirect.

As you may remember, I reviewed the 8-5-8 Rosado a few weeks ago. You may also remember that the only difference between the various 8-5-8 cigars is their wrappers. This cigar has an African Cameroon wrapper and I am anxious to see how it affects the cigar's flavors.

The cigar is well made and dense.

After cutting the cap the test draw was very good. Even before I lit the cigar the wrapper had sweet notes. After lighting the cigar the initial flavors were sweet almond notes and nice pepper. I decided to let the cigar sit for a minute.

About 1/2 inch in the cigar finally settled down into vanilla, pepper, citrus and roasted almond notes. The citrus notes were not really grapefruit or orange but they definitely tasted citrus-y. The finish is definitely one of vanilla. The pepper is good on the front end but is not lingering on the finish at this point.

After another 1/2 inch or so the vanilla is the lead flavor and some richness is developing. The secondary notes of citrus and almond are still on the spice. The finish remains one of vanilla and there is now some lingering pepper.

Just past the midpoint the citrus notes are more prominent. The vanilla is still mixed in and the almond is still on the tail end of the spice.

The cigar did not change from this point to the end. This cigar is not nearly as good to me as the Rosado. This cigar retained the citrus notes to the end along with the richness. The pepper was good on both ends and the vanilla finish remained a constant. The rich notes helped the cigar get a little higher score than it would had they not been there.

Score: 88
