Xikar Habano2 Robusto (5 x 50)

This is the newest edition to the Xikar family of cigars, the Habano2. It is currently being debuted at this year's IPCPR in Orland, Florida. I do not know a lot about this cigar but it is comprised of Sumatran, Nicaraguan, and Honduran tobaccos with a Habano 2000 wrapper.

The cigar is quite nice looking with an oily wrapper. The box pressing is sharp.

After cutting the cap the test draw was effortless. Sometimes with box pressed cigars the draw can be tight but this cigar had a great draw. After light up the initial flavors were cedar, coffee, creamy almond, and a very nice amount of pepper. I let it sit for a minute.

About 3/4 inch in the flavors are holding steady. The pepper is about 7 out of 10 in intensity. The finish is a light cream with a touch of lingering pepper. The cigar is medium bodied at this point and it's burning very evenly. So far the cigar is very enjoyable.

At about the 1 inch point I noted a new flavor; nutmeg. You get it right after the roasted almonds. Initially you get the cedar then shortly thereafter you get the rich, lightly roasted almonds, and then the nutmeg completes the flavors. Of course, the coffee is still there along with the pepper.

About 2 inches in the flavors are still consistent although the roasted almonds seem to be improving and trying to overtake the cedar but I doubt they will. The cigar is still medium bodied but it appears to be moving toward medium to full bodied. Other than that there are no other changes.

With about only 1 1/2 inches left the nutmeg has made a strong move to the front. The roasted almonds have decreased. The nutmeg and cedar are pretty much neck and neck. The finish is a "creamy" cream and very pleasing. It has a light sweetness and some lingering pepper.

As the cigar ended the notes were very much as they were previously. I enjoyed the cedar and roasted almonds in the first 1/3 to half. The coffee gave it depth. The pepper was very good. The finish did not change much being one of cream with some lingering pepper. Then the nutmeg notes gave it another level of flavor. In the final third the cigar did transition to one of cedar and nutmeg with the roasted almond notes decreasing. The change was not a bad one, however. The pepper was a nice constant and above average. I rated it as a 7 out of 10 in intensity. I enjoyed the cigar very much and I thank Xikar for giving me a sneak peak at this cigar. It should do very well for them. Look for them on shelves soon.
