Davidoff Nicaragua Robusto (5 x 50)

Video review HERE.

This is the highly anticipated new cigar from Davidoff. It is a Nicaraguan puro with the wrapper consisting of a ten year old Nicaraguan Havana-seed Rosado wrapper around a distinct blend of tobaccos from Nicaragua's major growing regions.
The black motif to reflect Davidoff Nicaragua's identity and unique position in the company's profile.

The three triangles represent the mountains and volcanoes of Nicaragua. According to Davidoff head of marketing Richard Krutick, the triangles also symbolize a three-part theme: "explore, adventure and discover."

Price point of these cigars online is around $14 each.

The cigar is well made and has no oiliness to the wrapper. There is no triple cap. Here is a shot of the foot.

The test draw after cutting the cap was very good. The initial flavors were a lightly sweet cedar with notes of toast and earth tones. The cedar is light in flavor and almost a dry cedar. The initial flavors took almost 1/4 inch to nail down.

About 1 1/4 inch in the cigar has settled down into a very nice combination of a much sweeter cedar with some richness. There are notes of cherry now. There is a lot more earth flavors but much less toast flavors. The pepper is rated at a 6 and it's a white pepper. There is much more pepper on the finish, which is a nice sweet cream with some toasted notes. The finish is very pleasingly sweet. The cigar is mild to medium bodied at this point and burning evenly.

At the lower band the cedar is continuing to get sweeter and rich. The toast notes are back and the earth notes are increasing. The sweetness of the cedar is very pleasing. You still get those cherry notes here and there. The finish is even sweeter now. The pepper seems to have decreased on the finish but the finish itself is very, very nice. There are still some toasted notes on the sweet cream finish.

With about 1 1/2 inches remaining the great tasting sweet cedar continues. The other notes of toast and earth are unchanged. There now seems to be a touch of cream at the tail end of the sweet cedar. One negative about the cigar is the cigar is soft. It is a bit spongy with gentle pressure. The cigar appears to be on schedule to last about one hour. The finish is still amazing. It is so nice to find a cigar with a long, sweet finish like this cigar has.

As the cigar ended it was amazing. I absolutely loved the flavors; a very sweet cedar, toast, earth, and a touch of cream. There is some richness in the cedar. The pepper increased to a 7 over the course of the cigar. The strength of the cigar also increased to medium to full bodied. The finish is the star of this cigar. The very long, sweet cream with some toasted notes is fantastic. The lingering pepper also came back to the intensity it was initially. You won't find many reviews calling the finish the star of a cigar but this one is an example of it. The only negatives were the cigar is a bit soft and it took about 1/2 inch in the beginning to get some flavors to nail down. Even with these negatives this is a great cigar. There is no doubt that Davidoff will do very well with these cigars. They are not cheap but well worth the money.

Score: 94

They sound great.

That sounds similar to a Herrara Esteli which is also a Nicaraguan puro, but it comes in at half the MSRP. In reality the Davidoff's will sell in stores for $20+. THey just never seem worth the premium when compared to similar sticks.
