Video review HERE.
This is another from the House of Emilio and Gary Burgess. The Gonzo Santeria is made in Nicaragua and comprised of:
Wrapper: San Andres
Double binder: San Andres and Jalapa
Filler: 2009 Nicaraguan Jalapa and Condega
The cigar is box pressed and a very dark brown. It feels very dense and has a nice feel in the hand.
It is finished with a pigtail cap.
The test draw after cutting the pigtail cap was just very good with a touch of firmness. The initial flavors were espresso, cocoa, cream, and black pepper rated at an 8.
About 3/4 inch in the cigar settled down into the above flavors with the addition of light, sweet cedar and dry oak. The finish is a sweet cream with lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium bodied. It feels like it will move heavier.
About 1 1/2 inches in the flavors are mixed very evenly. It's as if you put all the flavors in a bowl and stirred them up and spooned them out. That's the flavor you get. A nice mix.
2 1/2 inches in the flavors have separated a bit. There are a lot more wood notes and the espresso notes are very pronounced. The cocoa notes are diminished. The cedar is still there with some of the cream notes, which are faint. The wood and espresso are quite dominant. The finish is a combination of cream and wood notes. The cigar is medium to full bodied.
With 2 inches remaining the cocoa notes are back. They are faint but they are back. The wood and espresso are still heavy. The cedar notes are still the most noticeable of the sweet flavors while the cocoa is somewhat subtle and the cream notes are still subtle.+ The pepper remains very good and the finish remains about the same. The cigar is still medium to full bodied.
The cigar ended at full bodied status. The cigar was about the same as the last segment. It is very heavy on espresso and wood. The cedar remained the most noticeable of the sweet flavors while the cocoa was subtle and the cream was very subtle. The flavors in this cigar made it very interesting. I enjoyed this cigar. It should be available anywhere that carries other House of Emilio cigars.
Score: 91
