La Aurora 1962 Corojo Robusto (5 x 50)

Video review HERE.

La Aurora is pleased to announce that the La Aurora 1962 Corojo and the La Aurora 1987 Connecticut are now in stores. La Aurora is celebrating their 113 years in existence. These two blends are dedicated to the years in which they began working with the types of wrappers used on each.

Today I am reviewing the 1962 Corojo. I'll be reviewing the 1987 Connecticut soon.

The La Aurora 1962 features a corojo wrapper, from the Cibao Valley in the Dominican Republic, wrapped over an Ecuadorian binder, and fillers from the Cibao Valley and Nicaragua.

The cigar is a reddish brown in color and well made. It has an average feel in the hand for a robusto.

The test draw after cutting the cap was very good. The initial flavors were sweet cinnamon with cream and floral notes with black coffee at the base. There was a combination of red and black pepper. On the finish I only got black pepper with sweet cream initially.

About one inch in the floral notes are changing over to a sweet brown sugar and butter. They combine very nicely with the cinnamon. The cigar is already above medium bodied and moving quickly to medium to full bodied. I can see this getting to full bodied.

About 2 inches in and the cigar is very sweet. I did not expect it to be this sweet but it is, and it's nice! The coffee is a nice base but it's not that overbearing. The cigar is medium to full bodied and you can start to feel the ligero at this point. The finish continues to be very good with the massive amount of lingering black pepper.

With 2 inches remaining the red and black pepper are converging into just a black pepper. The front end flavors continue to be great. The finish also continues to be very good with the great lingering black pepper. The cigar is full bodied now in strength.

The flavors continued to the end. I loved the cinnamon, brown sugar, and butter, with a nice black coffee base. The black pepper on the front end was very good but the lingering black pepper on the finish of sweet cream with a touch of cinnamon was great. This cigar is medium bodied in flavor but full bodied in strength. I loved this cigar and was a little surprised  how full bodied it was. Look for these in shops now and definitely give them a try.

Score: 93

That's tough because La Aurora cigars have a distinctive flavor all their own. I tried other cigars that they make to see if they suit your tastes.
