(Description taken from Cigar-Coop.com website)
Joya de Nicaragua has launched the fourth installment of its Joya line with Joya Silver. Joya Silver brings an all box-pressed multi-national blend into the Joya de Nicaragua portfolio. The cigar is the latest that coincides with the company’s 50th anniversary.

Joya Silver consists of an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, a San Andres binder, and all-Nicaraguan fillers. The cigar is available in four sizes: Corona, Robusto, Toro, and Ultra (Corona Gorda). Each size is presented in 20-count boxes.

“With each Joya, we’ve aimed to cater to modern aficionados by accompanying them through their smoking journey, from beginners to connoisseurs; the line-up represents an evolution of flavor and complexity, each blend being a distinct and peculiar perspective of Nicaraguan tobacco interfused with leaves from other origins. Another feature of our Joya line is that it comes at incredible retail price. With Joya Silver we’re expanding this experience with a medium to full blend,” said Juan Martínez, Joya de Nicaragua Executive President in a press release. He continued, “Together with already popular Joya variants, Silver will continue to generate excitement among modern smokers and make their taste exploration much more rewarding.”

“In the year of our 50th anniversary, we want to be recognized as a cigar factory that delivers the expected timeless quality of a Nicaraguan cigar, but that is also willing to evolve and take on new challenges. On top of creating a cigar for the Joya Line with a more complex flavor profile, we wanted to create a strong visual impact. Joya Silver’s packaging is probably the edgiest in our portfolio, making it a smoke that shines.” added Mario Pérez, Joya de Nicaragua’s General Manager.

Joya Silver joins Joya Red (Nicaraguan puro), Joya Black (San Andres Maduro),  and Joya Cabinetta (Ecuadorian Connecticut and Criollo wrapper).

The cigar is very dark and soft box pressed. It has a nice feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were a sharp, sweet orange citrus, brown sugar, nutmeg, unsweetened chocolate, and earthy black coffee. There was black pepper which I rated at a 7.

At the first third (25 minutes) the flavors were very much like I initially described. The nutmeg is a creamy nutmeg. It is very much mixed with the citrus and brown sugar notes. The chocolate notes are somewhat subtle. The finish is nutmeg, cream, and a few drops of chocolate with some nice lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium bodied at this point. The first third is rated at a 90.

At the second third (56 minutes) the nutmeg became a little less intrusive. You get a lot more of the sweet orange citrus and the brown sugar gives the cigar even more sweetness. The cigar improved for me. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is now a thick, creamy nutmeg with chocolate. The lingering black pepper continues to be very good. For the second third I bumped the score to a 91.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 23 minutes. The chocolate and nutmeg notes came out in the final third equaling the citrus notes. The black coffee notes held the base and were not very noticeable. The finish was unchanged. The cigar was still medium to full bodied. At times I seemed to get a dry cocoa flavor but it did not hold. For me, the cigar was at it's best in the second third. With the elevation of nutmeg and unsweetened chocolate in the final third it lost a little. I rated the final third at a 90. You can purchase these cigars HERE.

Overall Score: 90 (90.33)
