For the first time in nearly a decade, the El Triunfador Original line is getting a line extension. At this year’s 2018 IPCPR Trade Show came word that a Robusto size vitola is being added to El Triunfador Original, the broadleaf wrapper edition of El Triunfador.
El Triunfador was originally released in a classic 7 1/2 x 38 featuring a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler. When El Triunfador was expanded to be a brand, it was originally targeted for the European market and featured a more dialed back blend with an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper. Eventually, the El Triunfador line was released in the U.S. market. The Broadleaf El Triunfador remained and became known as the El Triunfador Original.

The cigar is finished with a pigtail cap.
The cigar has an average feel for a robusto.
The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were a dry cedar with some nice brown sugar, a frothy cream somewhat like a whipping cream, light chocolate notes, minor amounts of nutmeg, and black coffee. There was a nice amount of black pepper which I rated at a 7 1/2. The cigar has a very white ash.
At the first third (21 minutes) the cigar increased it's sweetness. The dry cedar and brown sugar are very sweet. There are a few tinglings of cinnamon. There is also a smooth sweetness of caramel. The whipping cream flavor has transitioned over to a sweet caramel. There is a touch of chocolate. Not that much, actually, but it's nice to have. There is also a nice black coffee base. While there is some minor nutmeg on the front end you really get most of it on the finish, which is one of chocolate, caramel, and nutmeg. There is also a nice amount of lingering black pepper on the finish. The cigar is medium bodied at this point. For the first third I rated the cigar at a 92.
The second third (36 minutes) had the same flavors as the first third but the whipping cream notes came back to join the caramel notes. The nutmeg and chocolate continue to be subtle. The flavors mix very well together. The cigar is still medium bodied. The finish is unchanged. The cigar has not changed enough to move it up or down so the second third score remains at 92.
The cigar lasted 57 minutes. In the final third the cigar got a little darker. There were more black coffee notes which took away some of the sweetness. But not a significant amount. I also lost the whipping cream notes. The cigar is still sweet but not quite as sweet as the second third. I rated the final third at 91. This is a good, short cigar with nice flavors. Anyone who is a fan of Tatuaje should like this cigar. You can purchase these cigars HERE.
