Cigar Dojo has announced its latest collaborative project is with Cubariqueño Cigar Company. Today the online social media community announced it is teaming up with Cubariqueño to release the Protocol Night Stick. It’s the second collaboration between Cubariqueño and Cigar Dojo.
Blended by Hector Alfonso Sr., the Protocol Night Stick features an Ecuadorian Habano Rosado Oscuro wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler. The cigar comes in one size – a 6 1/2 x 54 Toro Gordo known as the “Attitude Adjuster.”
Juan Cancel, co-owner of Cubariqueño Cigar Co., commented in a press release, “We wanted to follow up the extraordinarily successful Protocol K9 with something special for the Cigar Dojo community! We wanted the Dojo Nation to have a very memorable cigar experience, so we blended this beauty especially with them in mind! We hope you guys enjoy the Night Stick as much as we do; I actually love it and am sad that it will not be a regular-production cigar. I made myself a few extra because I know they are going to sell out fast!” (and they did...all sold out immediately)
The Protocol Night Stick will be sold in ten-count bundles. A total of 500 bundles have been produced (compared to 300 bundles for the previous Cubariqueño collaboration with Cigar Dojo, the K9). It will be sold exclusively through Pennsylvania-based retailer Famous Smoke Shop. Pricing is set at $89.99 per bundle and $9.00 per cigar.
The cigar is well made and has a nice feel in the hand.
The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were a tangy, sweet orange citrus, quite a bit of brown sugar and cinnamon, nutmeg, dry cocoa, and a light black coffee base. There was a nice amount of black pepper which I rated at an 8. With the oscuro wrapper I got more of a dry cocoa flavor rather than a straight chocolate. Nice start.
At the first third (31 minutes) the black coffee notes have become very noticeable. They are up. The flavors, in general, are getting a little darker. I still have the cocoa flavor and now a citrus/cedar flavor instead of straight orange citrus. There are also the brown sugar, cinnamon, and more nutmeg notes. The finish is one of nutmeg and cocoa with little sweetness. There is a modest amount of lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium bodied, leaning toward medium to full. The cigar is equally as good now as it was in the beginning even with the minor changes. I rated the first third at 92.
At the second third (1 hour 18 minutes) the flavors have meld together very nicely. There is an even amount of just about every flavor making the cigar in balance. The citrus/cedar is still what I would call the lead flavor but the others closely follow. The cigar is now medium to full bodied. To me, the cigar has improved with the flavor balance. I rated the second third at 93.
The cigar lasted 1 hour 56 minutes. A very good burn time. In the final third I didn't find anything changing. The cigar continued to have the nice mix of all the flavors in an even mix. The cigar did, however, reach full bodied status. This has been a very good cigar and hopefully you got some because they immediately sold out. If you can find them they are a definite must-try. I rated the final third at 93.
Overall Score: 92.67
