This cigar, like the toro, is beautiful and well made. For a lancero it has a nice feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the small pigtail cap was a bit firm so I decided to use my PerfecDraw tool to improve the draw. At light up the initial flavors were a sweet orange citrus with cedar aspects, quite a bit of brown sugar and cinnamon, caramel, nutmeg, and black coffee. There was a nice amount of black pepper which I rated at 7 1/2. Nice, sweet start.

At 17 minutes in, about an inch or so, I started to get leather notes. The extreme sweetness initially simply covered them up. But, they are now noticeable.

At the first third (32 minutes) the leather notes are picking up. I still had the tremendously sweet, rather rich, orange citrus with cedar aspects, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, light caramel, and black coffee. This is one of those cigars that started off better than it was at the first third. If I were scoring the initial flavors they would have scored 95. With the elevated leather and now, nutmeg, the first third score is actually 94. Still very good but it lost a little from the outset to the first third. The finish is citrus, brown sugar, and nutmeg with a nice amount of lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium to full bodied.

At the midpoint (45 minutes) the cigar took off in richness. The leather notes and nutmeg notes dropped back to the point the cigar is now in balance. All the flavors are in play and balanced. And, the cigar is rich. In my opinion the cigar really improved. I rated the midpoint at 96.

At the second third (1 hour 1 minute) the leather and nutmeg raised their little heads a bit. The cigar is not quite as rich as it was at the midpoint. Even with the slight elevation of leather and nutmeg this is a very good cigar. Being overly critical I lowered the second third score to 95. The finish is unchanged. The cigar is full bodied now. This cigar is a little different than the toro, which I expected but it's a very good cigar.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 24 minutes. In the final third the caramel notes and coffee notes rose. The caramel had a nice richness. The other notes were about the same. This change did not hurt the cigar. It's still very sweet. The finish is unchanged and the cigar is very full bodied. I held the score of 95 for the final third. This is a very good cigar that may be a tick lower than the toro but they are almost equal and both excellent cigars. To purchase the lancero go HERE.
