The Lirio Rojo, or Red Lily, is released each year in December and has been since 2015. This blend is the highlight for Warped fans all over the world for its uniqueness and minimalist beauty. The cigar come in a wheel of 50 with no bands and held together by a wide red ribbon and wrapped in red paper.
Since it's original relase it has only been released in a single size; 5.5 x 44. But in 2019 Warped Cigars is changing things up in regards to the size and shape.
The blend remains the same since 2015; entirely Nicaraguan tobacco.
The 2019 Lirio Rojo will be a 6 3/8 x 42 size with a 109 cap in the traditional Cabinet of 50.
Due to the unique shape and only having wood moulds available that require hand maintenance to keep them up to par they are only able to manufacture a small amount of this vitola.
The cigar looks nice with the bullet cap. It has an average feel in the hand.
The test draw after cutting the cap was very good. Some of the previous samples had a semi-tight draw so be sure you have your PerfecDraw tool hand...just in case.
The initial flavors at light up were a somewhat tangy cedar, a lot of brown sugar, nice cinnamon, sweet caramel, nutmeg, and a nice black coffee base. There was a nice black pepper initially rated at 7 1/2 to 8. Very nice, sweet start.
At the first third (23 minutes) the flavor notes are very much like initially described. I got a little more of the nutmeg notes. The cedar is not very tangy now but still very sweet with the brown sugar and caramel added to it. The tingly cinnamon notes are very nice. The black pepper is still very good. The black coffee base is nice and helps round out the cigar with lower level notes. The finish is caramel and nutmeg with a nice amount of lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium bodied at this point. The cigar has very nice, sweet flavors and they are in a good mix. I rated the first third at 94.
At the second third (47 minutes) not a lot changed except for the strength. It's now medium to full bodied. Another small change is the caramel now has a toasted note. There are still a lot of sweet notes in the cigar. The nutmeg is in the perfect amount. It's there and you can notice it but it does not jump out. Similarly, the black coffee makes a nice base but it does not dominant the flavors. The black pepper remains very good. The finish is unchanged. I see no need to change the score; 94 for the second third.
The cigar lasted 1 hour 9 minutes. Just like the second third not much changed in the final third except for the strength. It's now full bodied. The finish is unchanged. This has been a very good cigar and probably the best Lirio Rojo I've had over the years. The nice sweet flavors continued to the end. I maintained the previous scores of 94 for the final third.
