Brick House Maduro Toro (6 x 52)

Video review HERE.

The Brick House line has been around awhile but today we're taking a closer look at the brand in the maduro version.

The Brick House label is a tribute to JC Newman’s childhood home, that also served as the town tavern.

Wrapper: Brazilian Arapiraca
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Nicaragua

Vitola:
Toro 6 x 52

The cigar is a dark brown but not as dark as some maduros I've seen The cigar has a nice feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was very good. The initial flavors at light up were a citrus/cedar, sweet chocolate, brown sugar, lots of cinnamon, cream, nutmeg, and black coffee. The black pepper initially was rated at 8. At light up there are a lot of sweet flavors.

At the first third (26 minutes) The black coffee ticked up a little and it needed to since it's a maduro cigar. The sweet notes are quite prominent. There is now more of a dry cedar with the twang of citrus. There are still brown sugar, cinnamon, and chocolate notes. There are even some caramel notes floating around. The nutmeg is not intrusive at all. In fact it's hardly noticeable. The black pepper remains very good. The finish is chocolate, citrus, and subtle nutmeg with a very nice amount of lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium to full bodied. I rated the first third 93.

In the second third (49 minutes) the flavor notes have not changed but the coffee notes decreased. There are plenty of sweet notes but the coffee notes are lacking a little. The cigar lacks some depth. Even the chocolate does not really help the depth of dark flavors because it's a sweet chocolate. The cigar is now full bodied. The finish has some cedar notes now but other than that it's fairly unchanged. For a predominantly Nicaraguan cigar there are very little, if any nutmeg notes. The cigar tastes very good but it lacks depth. But the black pepper remains excellent, on the front end and the finish. I rated the second third 91.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 11 minutes. In the final third nothing changed. The sweet notes were strong and the dark notes (black coffee) were a little lacking. They are still there but in a decreased state. The black pepper, which may be the star of the cigar, is still very good on both ends. The cigar is full bodied and the finish is unchanged. I enjoyed the cigar but it would have been better if it had more black coffee notes. I rated the final third 91 since nothing changed.

Overall Score: 91.67
