Drew Estate announces the national launch of the Undercrown Corona Pequena in both Maduro and Shade wrappers. Today we look at the maduro version.
The Undercrown Corona Pequena is a 4” x 44 petite corona, perfect to light up on the go or on those frigid winter days.
The Undercrown Maduro Corona Pequena features a Mexican San Andres Maduro wrapper, Connecticut Stalk Cut and Sun cured Habano binder, and Brazilian and Nicaraguan filler leaves.
From the Wynwood Safehouse, Jonathan Drew Founder and President of Drew Estate adds, “Corona Pequena’s are short, squat, flavor bombs that sit between the tin size and the robusto size in the Undercrown brand family. We could go on and on about the “functionality” of this short smoke during winter months - but there is something absolutely beautiful about the Corona Pequena that is more meaningful than just utilitarianism. This cigar is a stunner in both taste and trade dress. The whole DE team is really proud of this little gem. Wurd to Westchester.”
The Undercrown Corona Pequena is packaged in 32 count boxes with an MSRP of $176.00/box.
The cigar is very small. It looks like a fat fire cracker.
The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were a tangy cedar, brown sugar, caramel, quite a bit of nutmeg, chocolate, and a large black coffee base. There was black pepper rated at 7 1/2 to 8. This is a very dark noted cigar and the caramel notes really help with equalizing the flavors with sweetness.
At the first third (24 minutes) I had the same flavor notes but they are now rich. You also still have the nice dark notes of chocolate and black coffee. The black pepper is very good. You have tangy cedar, brown sugar, caramel, nutmeg (which has settled down a bit), chocolate, and black coffee. The finish is chocolate and nutmeg with a very nice amount of lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium to full bodied. Lovers of the original Undercrown should also like this cigar. I rated the first third 94.
At the second third (41 minutes) the nutmeg came back to it's original amount and the cigar reached full bodied. The other flavor notes are unchanged. The finish is unchanged. The cigar is very short. It doesn't have time to do a lot of changing. It's designed to be a quicker, shorter version of the original Undercrown. I continue to enjoy this cigar. I rated the second third at 94.
The cigar lasted 54 minutes. Just a small change in the final third. The nutmeg continued to elevate and it took just a bit from the sweet flavors. The cigar is still very good just not quite as sweet as the first two thirds. The finish is unchanged and the cigar is still full bodied. This is a great, quick cigar for times when you don't have a lot of time. I rated the final third at 93. You can purchase these cigars HERE.
