Cavalier Genève USA Exclusive Petit Corona (5 x 44)

Video review HERE.

(Description taken from Halfwheel.com website)
Cavalier Genève has debuted cigars from its Small Batch collection, including two cigars that have not been offered for sale before.

One of those is completely new, the Cavalier Genève Black Series II Salomones, a 7 x 50/58 box-pressed salomones. It retails for $12 per cigar and will be sold in 10-count boxes.

The other is the Cavalier Genève USA Exclusive Petit Corona, a 5 x 44 vitola (which I am reviewing today) that retails for $6.90 per cigar. It will be sold in boxes of 50. The USA Exclusive line was formerly known as the Black Series until the company changed the name last year.

This is not the first time the Black Series Petit Corona has been available, the company previously used the cigar as an event-only release.

Both cigars use the same components: a Mexican San Andrés wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan fillers. The difference is the Black Series II is box-pressed, while the USA Exclusive is round. The two blends are not identical.

The cigar is dark and finished with a pigtail cap.

The gold foil diamond is bright and shiny. When i get to this gold foil I will smoke right through it. The cigar has an average feel in the hand for a petit corona.

The test draw after cutting just below the pigtail cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were a nice citrus/cedar, touch of brown sugar, light caramel, quite a bit of sweet chocolate, and a nice full bodied black coffee base. There was a nice amount of black pepper which I rated at an 8. It's a coarse black pepper. That's a very good start.

At the first third (24 minutes) this cigar is a nice surprise. I have never reviewed any of the Cavalier Geneve cigars before but this one is going along nicely. This is a very sweet, tangy cigar. The notes are a sweet, tangy orange citrus, brown sugar, a minor touch of cinnamon, a touch of nutmeg, a lot of sweet chocolate, and black coffee. Actually, the nutmeg just arrived. I had not noticed it before now. The tangy notes and the sweet chocolate notes overpowered the nutmeg. The finish is sweet chocolate with a nice amount of lingering black pepper. The cigar is leaning toward medium to full bodied. I like a nice, sweet maduro. I could smoke this type of cigar every day. I rated the first third 94.

At the second third (45 minutes) the cigar has burned through the gold foil. The coffee notes have come out a little more. The other flavor notes are pretty much unchanged. This continues to be a very sweet cigar, and I like that. The cigar is now full bodied. The cigar is very dark and the pepper is excellent. The flavors are somewhat like a chocolate covered orange. I easily held the previous score of 94 for the second third.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 12 minutes. In the final third the sweet chocolate starting tasting more like a sweet dark chocolate. And some of the front end tangy notes dropped a bit. The finish is unchanged and the cigar is still full bodied. The black pepper was good throughout the cigar. I rated the final third 93. But there are very nice maduro flavors in this cigar. Very nice.

Overall Score: 93.67
