Avo Improvisation 2021 (7 1/2 x 50)

Video review HERE.

(Description taken from Cigar-coop.com website)

The year 2021 marks the 20th anniversary of when the first AVO Limited Edition released, and this year AVO pays homage to that milestone, along with what would have been the 95th birthday of brand founder Avo Uvezian, with the AVO Improvisation 2021 release.

“Avo Uvezien broke conventions as one of the first to produce an annual limited edition cigar in the year 2001. To celebrate his legacy, we decided to break the mold once again, with this unique 2021 release,” states Lana Fraser, Director of Marketing and Retail at Davidoff of Geneva USA in a press release. “The AVO Improvisation 2021 packaging is designed to honour the role copper has played in both art and music for centuries. The cigar’s shape draws inspiration from the timeless and celebratory history of the AVO line and the iconic AVO Improvisation Series. While we honour both the 20th Anniversary of these limited editions and what would have been the 95th anniversary of the composer himself, the Double Corona reflects the length and impact of these milestones.”

The AVO Improvisation 2021 features an Ecuadorian wrapper and binder over Dominican fillers. According to Davidoff, the wrapper has undergone a special aging and fermentation process to amplify the cream and sweetness of the tobacco.

The size of the AVO Improvisation 2021 is a 7 1/2 x 50 Double Corona. The Double Corona is the size used for the AVO 75th Anniversary, the first of the AVO Limited Editions released in 2021. The cigars come packaged in 20-count boxes with a total of 2,500 boxes allocated for the U.S. market and 4,550 boxes globally. Pricing is set at $16.00 per cigar.

The cigar is very nice looking. It has a very nice feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were an apricot/peach, brown sugar, leather, and black coffee. There was black pepper rated at 7. Nice flavors but not very intense at the outset.

At the first third (40 minutes) the flavors are just like they started but they are a little more intense. They're starting to develop. The notes are now sweet peach, light apricot, light leather, and black coffee. The finish is peach and an average amount of lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium bodied. I rated the first third 91.

As I moved through the second third (1 hour 32 minutes) the cigar improved. The peach notes are very pronounced and sweet. There are now elements of cream. There is still light leather and black coffee. I don't have the apricot notes any more. The finish is unchanged. The black pepper has improved. The cigar is still medium bodied. I rated the second third 93.

The cigar lasted a very impressive 1 hour 58 minutes. Just shy of 2 hours. Great burn time. The black coffee and black pepper improved in the final third. The peach notes and light leather were still in play. The finish was unchanged. The cigar is a low grade medium to full bodied. The cigar now seems to be a little less impressive than the second third but a little better than the first third. I rated the final third 92. A good cigar overall.

Overall Score: 92
