United Cigars has announced a limited production candela/maduro barber-pole offering in its Firecracker name. The cigar has been dubbed the Irish Car Bomb Firecracker.

In addition to a Dominican Candela and Mexican San Andres Maduro for the barber-pole, the cigar features a Nicaraguan Criollo binder and Dominican Ligero, Nicaragua, and Pennsylvania Broadleaf fillers. The vitola measures 3 x 50 and features the signature Firecracker long rush. The cigars are sold in five-pack bundles with a price point of $30.00. Production comes from the Magia Cubana Factory in Gurabo, Dominican Republic.

The cigar is a nice looking barber pole. It has a shaggy foot and a "fuse" at the cap. It has an average feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were cocoa/chocolate, apricot, creamy nutmeg, and earthy black coffee. There was nice black pepper rated at 7 to 7 1/2. Nice start.

At the first third (24 minutes) the chocolate notes seem to have changed over to a dark chocolate. The sweetness comes from the apricot notes which have actually decreased somewhat. The nutmeg is still there but not very intrusive. The earthy black coffee is holding the base. The finish is a cream with nice lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium bodied. The cigar was a little sweeter at the beginning than it is in the first third. But it's not a bad cigar. I rated the first third 89.

As I moved through the second third (41 minutes) the cocoa notes made a rebound. They're back and they improve the cigar. The cigar is still medium bodied. The finish is unchanged. I still had nice apricot notes, cocoa, chocolate/cocoa, a little nutmeg, and black coffee. I rated the second third 90.

The cigar lasted 58 minutes. A nice, quick smoke. The nice, sweet, apricot notes are elevated. They are also tangy. There were nice cocoa notes, nice black coffee notes, and the nutmeg is there but it's not intrusive. The cigar ended medium bodied. The finish is still cream with nice lingering black pepper. The cigar made another improvement. I rated the final third 91. This is a nice, short smoke.

Overall Score: 90
