(Description provided by Protocol Cigars)

Protocol Cigars is proud to announce the release of The Protocol Cyber Crimes Unit. This is the first new addition to the Protocol Core Line since the release of the Protocol Official Misconduct in 2018. Keeping with the company’s law enforcement theme, the Protocol Cyber Crimes Unit is done to honor those that protect the world from cyber criminals. The mission of the CCU Investigation squads are to conduct and assist in investigations where computers, networks, telecommunication devices, and other technological instruments are the vehicle or target for the commission of criminal acts against network resources critical to the function of corporate or government entities.

The Protocol Cyber Crimes Unit pays homage to co-owner Kevin Keithan and his day job. Kevin works in internet security. Juan Cancel said: “Kevin is a great addition to Protocol Cigars. Ever since Kevin has stepped out of the shadows and into the spotlight, we wanted to do a special Protocol Cigar line in his honor. I can’t think of anything more fitting than the Protocol Cyber Crimes Unit.”

The Protocol Cyber Crimes Unit will be manufactured at the La Zona Cigar Factory in beautiful Esteli, Nicaragua under the watchful eye of Erik Espinosa. This is the fifth Protocol Core Line release. This cigar is presented in a Boxed Pressed Short Churchill format of 6.5X48. They will come in a 10 count box similar to the rest of the Protocol Core Line and have an MSRP of $10.50 per cigar and a box costing $105.00. “This is a great size. We released the Protocol Probable Cause in this size and it was absolutely phenomenal! We wanted to revisit this extraordinary vitola on a very special release which I hold dear to my heart. The blend will be a Nicaraguan puro with a Rosado Habano wrapper. It will be creamy and smooth yet a good punch in the mouth. This will make a great addition to the Protocol Core Line. We are excited to present this to market. We hope our supporters enjoy them as much as we do. The Protocol Cyber Crimes Unit fits perfectly with the look and feel of the Protocol Core Line. But ultimately it is the flavors that fit perfectly in the core line portfolio.“ added Kevin Keithan.

The colors in the band really pop. The florescent green really stands out. The cigar is nicely made and has an average feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was very good. The initial flavors at light up were cedar, crab apple, brown sugar, quite a bit of an earthy nutmeg, light leather, and a very earthy black coffee. There was also a lot of a very rough, scratchy black pepper rated at 7 1/2 to 8. You really notice it in the midst of the earthy nutmeg, leather, and earthy black coffee.

At the first third (30 minutes) the flavors are pretty much like they started. There was some toning down of the massie nutmeg and black pepper. The black pepper is still very good and it lingers nicely. The front end flavors of cedar and crab apple are still nice but the crab apple notes hold the sweetness down a bit. The nutmeg is now very manageable. There is very little leather left at this point. This cigar is not quite as sweet as other Protocols but it still has nice sweetness. The finish is a lot of nutmeg with a touch of crab apple and brown sugar with nice lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium bodied leaning toward medium to full. I rated the first third 92.

As I moved through the second third (56 minutes) the earthiness increased. The black coffee is elevated and the leather is more noticeable, as well as the nutmeg. The sweeter notes have dipped a bit. The cigar tastes more powerful. The strength is medium to full. The finish is a lot of nutmeg and nice lingering black pepper. I rated the second third 91.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 20 minutes. The sweetness bounced back somewhat. I still had a lot of nutmeg, leather, and black coffee but the sweeter notes of cedar and brown sugar made an increase. The crab apple notes are gone. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is primarily nutmeg but there are faint notes of brown sugar. The lingering black pepper is very good. With the bounce back of the sweetness I rated the final third 92. Good addition to the Protocol lineup. Available HERE.
