Tatuaje T110 Ecuadorian Sumatra (4 3/8 x 52)

Video review HERE.

(Description taken from Halfwheel.com website)

After debuting in 2009 Pete Johnson has brought back the T110 in 2 different wrappers. He swapped out the original Ecuadorian Habano wrapper for Connecticut Broadleaf and Ecuadorian Sumatra, both of which Johnson uses elsewhere in his portfolio of cigars. They will also wear secondary bands indicating they aren’t using the same wrapper as the original T110.

The cigars are all short robustos that measure 4 3/8 x 52, and use the same Nicaraguan binder and filler across the three variations. Each has an MSRP of $10 and comes in boxes of 25 cigars, with 2,400 boxes of both the Broadleaf and Sumatra versions being produced, compared to just 1,000 boxes of the Ecuadorian habano version. For that latter cigar, 400 boxes were made exclusively for R. Field Wine Co. in Honolulu, Hawaii, and which are indicated as such by adding the store’s logo to the cliche.

Once this batch of T110s is gone, Pete does not plan on bringing them back for three to five years, as the T110 is part of the Tatuaje Limited Series, a group of cigars that Johnson said will rotate in and out in between production runs.

The cigar is nice looking and has an average feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were cedar, brown sugar, nougat, and a lot of black pepper which I rated an 8. You don't have a black coffee base at this point. Rather, you have a black pepper base.

At the first third (29 minutes) the flavors are just like the light up. The primary flavor is the nougat, followed by the brown sugar, and cedar. The black pepper is still very good at 7 1/2. The nougat is a nice flavor but it's not a wow flavor. The finish is actually where I noticed coffee. There is a lot of black coffee and a little nougat to give it a sort of coffee with some sweet cream effect. There was a nice amount of black pepper. The cigar is medium bodied. At this point the cigar is good but not great. I rated the first third 91.

Moving through the second third (51 minutes) I had a massive influence of nutmeg. It came out of nowhere to squash the sweet nougat and brown sugar. Oh, they're still there but they are suffering. The black pepper is still very good. It's back up to around 8 again. I didn't have cedar anymore. The notes are now nougat, brown sugar, and heavy nutmeg. The finish is nutmeg and nougat with elevated lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The cigar took a little hit with the nutmeg. I rated the second third 89.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 4 minutes. There was a little bounce back of the nougat and brown sugar and a retreat of the nutmeg. I'd say the nougat and brown sugar came back about 50% of what they were originally. The finish is unchanged. The cigar is still medium to full bodied. This is a nice cigar but it falls short of being really good or great. I rated the final third 90.

Overall Score: 90
