Roma Craft Baka Pygmy (4 x 46)

Video review HERE.

(Description taken from Cigar-coop.website)

The Roma Craft Baka features an African Cameroon wrapper but other details about the blend are unknown.

In terms of the branding and positioning of the RoMa Craft Tobac, it falls under brands of the “Early Modern Man” side of the company’s portfolio (also consisting of CroMagnon, Aquitaine, Neanderthal, and Wunder|Lust). The Baka are an ethnic group of people that, according to Wikipedia, are known to have inhabited West Africa as early as 2276 B.C. Pygmy (which is the name of this vitola) is a term which includes the Baka people as well as some other hunter-gatherer tribes.

Blend and Origin

While the African Cameroon wrapper is the featured tobacco on this blend, not much else is being disclosed about the tobaccos in the Baka. As with all RoMa Craft Tobac cigars, production is handled out of the company’s Nica Sueño factory in Estelí, Nicaragua.

Vitolas Offered

Seven sizes have been planned for the Baka. Each of the seven sizes has been released on the company’s flagship CroMagnon line. Baka is described as a limited production line with vitolas being introduced on a staggered basis. In 2019, the first two sizes, Pygmy and Bantu, made their debut.

The cigar is actually a petite corona. A nice, short cigar. It has a light feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were a lot of brown sugar, nutmeg, the beginnings of toffee, a light black coffee base, and a lot of black pepper rated at 7 1/2.

At the first third (17 minutes) the cigar is burning pretty evenly. Even though it's short you have to smoke it slowly to get an even burn. The cigar still has large amounts of brown sugar, the toffee is starting to develop more, nutmeg, and a light black coffee base. The black pepper remains very good; around 7 1/2 at least. The finish is brown sugar, dry cedar, and quite a bit of lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium bodied. I like brown sugar. I rated the first third 93.

Moving through the second third (33 minutes) the toffee notes are coming out more. There is more of a black coffee base. The black pepper is hovering at 7 1/2 to 8. There is a little dry cedar to go along with the nice brown sugar. There is also a little nutmeg in the mix. The finish is brown sugar, nutmeg, and quite a bit of lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium bodied, leaning toward medium to full. The cigar made a little improvement so I raised the score to 94.

The cigar lasted 48 minutes. The brown sugar does not decrease. To go along with it I had light dry cedar, toffee, nutmeg, and black coffee. The black pepper is still around 7 1/2 to 8. The finish is brown sugar, toffee, and a lot of lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium to full bodied. This was a good, short cigar. I held 94 for the final third. Well worth trying.

Overall Score: 93.67
