Diesel Sunday Gravy Pecorino (5 x 56)

Video review HERE.

(Description taken from Cigar-coop.com website)

Forged Cigar Company has shipped the second installment of the Diesel Sunday Gravy Series – Pecorino.

Sunday Gravy is a full-time line under Diesel and will feature seasonally-released, Nicaraguan-forward smokes developed by AJ Fernandez and Justin Andrews. Plans are for blends to be released quarterly and sold until their limited supply is depleted. Each of the cigars in the series are planned to be offered at a price less than $5.00 per cigar.

The name Pecorino comes from the Italian cheese often substituted for a more expensive variety. Here again, the culinary world and the cigar category collide, as Sunday Gravy Pecorino offers a satisfying smoking experience at a surprisingly affordable price.

Developed by AJ Fernandez and Justin Andrews and handcrafted at Tabacalera AJ Fernandez in EstelĂ, Nicaragua, Diesel Sunday Gravy Pecorino features a Mexican San Andres wrapper over a Cameroon binder and bold Nicaraguan Esteli Habano filler. The cigar comes in one size – a 6 x 56. Pricing is set at $4.99 per cigar.

Justin Andrews said, “AJ and I had a lot of fun blending Diesel Sunday Gravy Pecorino. And as often happens over Sunday sauce, we brought our opinions to the table. ‘Pecorino’ represents what he and I both believe is the best of our palates: AJ’s nod to a bold smoke is there on the Nicaraguan ligero filler and my style is represented through the complexity and balance of the Mexican San Andres wrapper. This is the perfect cigar to enjoy, share or gift this holiday season and the size makes Pecorino the perfect smoke for any occasion.”

The third Sunday Gravy blend is scheduled to be released in January 2022.

The cigar is well made and has a very smooth wrapper. It has a nice feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were citrus, citrus peel, apricot, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and black coffee. There was black pepper rated at 7 1/2. Nice, sweet start.

At the first third (28 minutes) the cigar is rocking right along. the cigar is burning evenly and the ash is very tight. There are tangy, sweet citrus notes, citrus peel, light apricot, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and black coffee. The finish is citrus and citrus peel with very good lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium bodied. The flavors really hit in m y wheelhouse. I like a sweet, citrus noted cigar. It has enough lower level notes, too. I rated the first third: 95. Not bad for a $5 cigar.

Moving through the second third (57 minutes) The cigar started to get earthy. The black coffee is elevated. I still had citrus, apricot, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, light citrus peel, and elevated, earthy black coffee. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is citrus and earthy black coffee with very good lingering black pepper. The flavor notes are there but the sweeter notes are not as intense. I rated the second third 92.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 19 minutes. The cigar got a little earthier but it didn't go crazy. I still had citrus, brown sugar, citrus peel, nutmeg, very light apricot notes, and very earthy black coffee. The black pepper on the front end is probably around 8. It's very good. The finish is light citrus, earthy black coffee, and nutmeg, with very good lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium to full bodied. For a $5 cigar this one is pretty good. I rated the final third 91. Definitely worth a try.

Overall Score: 92.67
