HVC Black Friday 2021 (4 3/4 x 54 Short Toro)

Video review HERE.

(Description taken from Cigar-coop.com website)

Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, is known as the biggest shopping day of the year. It’s a day in our culture that has taken on a life of its own. Each year since 2015, HVC Cigars has released a limited edition cigar meant to coincide with Black Friday.  HVC has now announced its Black Friday 2021 Limited Edition. The cigar is scheduled to ship in the late October/early November timeframe.

The HVC Black Friday 2021 is one of the more intriguing blends in the series. It will be the first HVC Black Friday cigar to use a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. The cigar features all Nicaraguan tobaccos including a heavier component of Corojo 2012 with Criollo ’98 for the filler and binder.

The national release of the Black Friday will be in a Short Toro size measuring 4 3/8 x 54. A total of 600 50-count boxes were produced. Production is handled out of the Tabacos Valle de Jalapa S.A. (TABSA) factory. Pricing is set at $9.50 per cigar.

HVC was the first company to release a Connecticut Broadleaf cigar from TABSA with the HVC Broadleaf Selection. To date, this is believed to be the only other cigar to come out of TABSA with a Broadleaf wrapper.

I reviewed the Black Friday 2019 and it received a score of 90.33.

The cigar is very dark and actually has a nice feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were citrus peel, a little brown sugar, nutmeg with a doughy consistency, and black coffee. There was black pepper rated at 7 1/2. Pretty good start but the doughy notes are a little detracting.

At the first third (40 minutes) the cigar is burning very slowly, which is a good thing. I now had light notes of citrus peel with light notes of brown sugar, nutmeg with reduced doughy notes, chocolate, and black coffee. The finish is citrus peel, some of those doughy notes, and light brown sugar. The lingering black pepper is pretty good. The cigar is medium bodied leaning toward medium to full. The doughy notes hold it back but it's still a nice cigar. I rated the first third 92.

As I moved through the second third (1 hour 5 minutes) the cigar improved. There are now citrus notes giving some sweetness. There are also nice brown sugar notes, creamy nutmeg without the doughy notes, chocolate, and black coffee. The black pepper is still very good. The finish is nutmeg, light citrus, and good lingering black pepper. The cigar is now medium to full. The cigar improved. I rated the second third 93.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 28 minutes. The cigar's ash was very tight. I had one ash in the ashtray that fell off about halfway through the smoke. In the final third the cigar held ground. The citrus notes remained and are very nice. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The doughy notes are still there and hold the cigar back but it's still pretty good. But I held the score of 93. This is the best Black Friday cigar I've had.

Overall Score: 92.67
