The second installment in the Privada Watch Series. This cigar was rolled at Tabacalera AJ Fernandez. A Nicaraguan puro featuring a new hybrid leaf wrapper created by AJ Fernandez. This is the first cigar from AJ to be released with this new wrapper leaf.
Wrapper: Nicaraguan Hybrid
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan
Cigar Size: 6" x 50
The cigar plays off as smaller than a 50 ring to me. It's well made and has an average feel in the hand.
The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were citrus, cedar, light citrus peel, nutmeg, and a very old, worn leather. The leather is the lead flavor in percentage. There was black pepper rated at 7. The start is a lot of leather and a decent amount of sweetness.
At the first third (26 minutes) the sweeter notes slight rose and the leather slightly decreased making the cigar more in balance. The notes are citrus, cedar, brown sugar, nutmeg, and leather. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish has hints of citrus, cedar, and leather with very good lingering black pepper. At this point this is the type of cigar I could smoke every day. I rated the first third 93.
Moving through the second third (58 minutes) the leather made a move up. It's still a very worn leather and it's now elevated. The cigar is now full bodied. The finish is unchanged. The sweeter notes suffered in this section. I rated the second third 90.
The cigar lasted 1 hour 22 minutes. It had a nice even burn. The citrus, cedar, and brown sugar notes made a small comeback. Not to the level of the first third but they did improve. The cigar is still full bodied. The finish is unchanged. This is a pretty good cigar. It's fairly heavy on leather but the sweet notes are nice, especially in the first and final thirds. I rated the final third 91.
