At the 2021 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show, Tatuaje showcased a special cigar under its La Riqueza line known as the Tatuaje La Riqueza SE 2022.
The Tatuaje La Riqueza SE 2022 brings the La Riqueza line back into the spotlight. In 2017, the La Riqueza brand was put on “pause” by Tatuaje. While the line was never discontinued, the product was removed from the Tatuaje price sheets.
The La Riqueza SE is a 5 5/8″ x 54 vitola that will be packaged in ten-count boxes. The blend consists of a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper and features a double binder and filler grown from the Garcia family farms in Nicaragua. A total of 4,000 boxes has been produced.
The cigar is very dark and has a closed foot.
The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were pear, citrus peel, brown sugar, a lot of worn leather, and black coffee. There was black pepper rated at 7 1/2. A very leathery start with some sweetness.
At the first third (24 minutes) the ash was still intact. The flavors were about the same but the leather increased a little. There is sweetness but the leather and black coffee are quite high. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is leather with good lingering black pepper. The cigar is "on the line" with me so I started it off at 90.
Moving through the second third (48 minutes) the citrus peel is the dominant front end flavor. It wipes out the pear notes. There is still some brown sugar but the bitterness of the citrus peel overshadows it. And there is still plenty of leather and black coffee. The cigar is still medium to full bodied. The finish is unchanged; leather with good lingering black pepper. The bitterness hurt the cigar but there is some brown sugar to help save it. I rated the second third 88.
The cigar lasted 1 hour 12 minutes. In the final third some of the bitterness subsided and the brown sugar slightly increased. There is a citrus note there also. The leather toned down just a bit and the black coffee was still there. The cigar is still medium to full bodied. The finish is still heavy on the leather but there are hints of citrus also with good lingering black pepper. The cigar got right between the first third and second third so I scored the final third 89. It made a slight improvment. This cigar is heavy on the leather with adequate sweetness in the first and final thirds.
