Rocky Patel The Edge 20th Anniversary Robusto (5 1/2 x 50)

Video review HERE.

(Description taken from Halfwheel.com website)

The company has begun shipping The Edge 20th Anniversary, a new blend that commemorates two decades of the company’s popular The Edge. For this release, Rocky Patel—the company’s founder—said he went back and blended around The Edge’s original wrapper, an Ecuadorian Sumatra varietal. The end result is a 10-year-old wrapper over a Honduran habano binder and fillers from Honduras and Panama.

Rocky Patel The Edge 20th Anniversary Toro (6 x 52) — $12 (Box of 20, $240)

Rocky Patel The Edge 20th Anniversary Sixty (6 x 60) — $13.50 (Box of 20, $270)

The Edge was launched in 2004, though this release marks the 20th anniversary of when the company began working on the project. Rocky Patel currently makes The Edge in seven other variations: A-10, Candela, Connecticut, Corojo, Habano, Maduro and Sumatra.

Like the original The Edge, the 20th Anniversary is made at El Paraiso in Honduras.

The cigar is dark and has a nice feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were an apricot/peach type flavor, brown sugar, a little citrus peel, a little nutmeg, and a lot of black coffee. There was black pepper rated at 7 1/2. Nice dark start with nice sweetness.

At the first third (25 minutes) I had rather faint notes of peach and brown sugar, a lot of earthiness and a lot of black coffee. There's a touch of harshness in the cigar. The finish is peach and good lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium bodied. The sweeter flavors could be more pronounced. The black pepper has increased to around 8. The cigar is not bad but it needs a little more sweetness. I rated the first third 91.

Moving through the second third (53 minutes) the cigar is getting darker and darker. The black coffee is very prominent. The earthiness has subsided. There are only hints of peach and brown sugar. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish is black coffee with good lingering black pepper. The cigar's sweetness is really decreasing and the black coffee is increasing. I rated the second third 88.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 17 minutes. The cigar continued on the same path. The cigar is almost completely black coffee. There are only minute hints of peach and brown sugar. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is black coffee and slight hints of peach and good lingering black pepper. I was disappointed in the cigar. It's not bad, it's just loaded with black coffee. I rated the final third 85.

Overall Score: 88
