Warped Cigars Upper Realm (5 x 48)

Video review HERE.

(Description taken from Cigar-coop.com website)

Upper Realm comes from the Agricola Ganadera Norteña S.A. (formerly known as TABSA). It consists of 100% Nicaraguan tobacco grown on the Aganorsa farms. The blend features a Nicaragua Corojo ’99 wrapper from Jalapa, an Esteli Corojo 2012 binder, and a filler comprised of 50% Esteli Criollo ’98, 40% Jalapa Corojo ’99, and 10% Condega Corojo ’99. The cigar comes in one size – 5 x 48. The cigars are packaged in 200-count cabinet boxes with a total of 250 cabinet boxes made.

“I wanted to blend something different for Warped,” said company founder Kyle Gellis in an email communication to retailers. “Everything about Upper Realm’s creation has been different – from tobacco sourcing and choice to packaging format. During the blending process, I remember thinking to myself, ‘We’re really reaching for a new and higher realm here,’ and the name Upper Realm was born.”

“This is the first time we are using so much Esteli and Criollo material, and it celebrates the essential raw power of Nicaragua and the Esteli region,” added Gellis. “The blend is deliberately transitional, and clearly showcases each individual region. Upper Realm compels insightful exploration of Nicaragua, and the rich complexity of its tobacco growing regions.”

Pricing is set at $12.50 MSRP.

The cigar is well made and has an average feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was very good. The initial flavors at light up were light citrus, citrus peel, brown sugar, and leather. There was black pepper rated at 8 to 8 1/2. A nice, peppery start.

At the first third (24 minutes) the citrus notes have increased since the light up. There were still citrus peel, brown sugar, and quite a bit of leather and black pepper notes. The finish is citrus, leather, and a little nutmeg with good lingering black pepper. The black pepper on the front end is better than on the finish. The cigar is medium to full bodied. For a Warped cigar this cigar comes across as much fuller than normal. I rated the first third 92.

As I moved through the second third (45 minutes) the cigar improved. The sweetness came out a little more. There is increased citrus but there are also toffee notes that give the cigar more sweetness. There is also some earthiness with the leather. The black pepper is still very good. The finish is toffee and leather with very good lingering black pepper. The cigar is now full bodied. I rated the second third 94.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 3 minutes. The earthiness crept up. The same flavor notes are in play. The cigar is full bodied. The finish is unchanged. The increased earthiness hurt the cigar a little. I rated the final third 93. Overall the cigar is pretty good and for Warped it's much fuller in taste and strength than their usual cigars.

Overall Score: 93
