Knuckle Sandwich, the cigar line created by Espinosa Premium Cigars and celebrity chef Guy Fieri, is getting a new version in the new year, as today the company announced the Knuckle Sandwich Connecticut, which is scheduled to be released in January.

The cigar features an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper and a Nicaraguan grown binder and filler. It is produced at AJ Fernandez’s San Lotano factory in Ocotal, Nicaragua, and  will be offered in three sizes:

Knuckle Sandwich Connecticut Robusto J (5 x 52) — $12.50 (Box of 20, $250)

Knuckle Sandwich Connecticut Short Churchill G (6 1/2 x 48) — $13 (Box of 20, $260)

Knuckle Sandwich Connecticut Toro H (6 x 54) — $13.50 (Box of 20, $270) REVIEWED TODAY

The letters that appear after the vitola names are nods to significant people in Fieri’s life.

“In the last year, Guy has shown his enthusiasm and commitment to our industry and the Knuckle Sandwich line,” said Erik Espinosa in a press release. “He is excited about adding a Connecticut offering to the Knuckle Sandwich brand and providing yet another smoking option to its fans.”

The cigar is golden brown and has an average feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were citrus peel, light citrus, brown sugar, a lot of leather, and a little creaminess. There was black pepper rated at 7 to 7 1/2. Not a bad start. I'll be curious to see if I get an Connecticut-esque qualities.

At the first third (30 minutes) the flavors are pretty much like they started. The creaminess appears to be developing into a very light cream making the cigar a little light even though it has leather. I still had the citrus peel combining with the brown sugar, light citrus, cream, and leather. The black pepper is around 7 1/2. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish is cream with light leather and good lingering black pepper. I rated the first third 93.

Moving through the second third (1 hour 4 minutes) the cigar is getting very earthy. It's almost like there's a light black coffee mixing with the leather. The notes are citrus peel, brown sugar, light citrus, light cream, and an abundance of leather and earthiness. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is leather with good lingering black pepper. It's so earthy the sweet notes are suffering. I rated the second third 90.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 38 minutes. The cigar kept getting more earthy and the leather increased. There are only hints of anything resembling citrus or brown sugar. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is unchanged. The increased earthiness and leather really hurt the cigar. I rated the final third 85. I had high hopes for this cigar but it's just too earthy and leathery.

Overall Score: 89.33
