Diesel Atonement is an unapologetically-bold, limited-edition smoke that’s an exclusive to TAA members.
Atonement marks another project in the collaboration between AJ Fernandez and Justin Andrews who created the smoke in response to feedback from leading retailers and Diesel fans.
Justin Andrews said, “The Diesel story continues to be written, not by AJ and me, but by the Diesel retailers and the fans of the brand who shop in their stores. They’ve been as supportive as they have been vocal, and they didn’t pull any punches when it came to telling us what they wanted for the TAA exclusive cigar this year. They asked for a full-bodied Nicaraguan smoke that balances strength and complexity, with a little something extra, and we delivered. We took the packaging to the next level and made the box to look like a classic novel. It’s our way of letting Diesel retailers and fans know that our story is their story, and there’s so much more to write.”
Diesel Atonement is made with an Ecuadoran Sumatra wrapper, a Connecticut Broadleaf binder and a blend of Nicaraguan fillers. The cigar is intense, with a natural earthy sweetness, peppery notes and an unexpected current of anise that flows throughout.
Only 1,000 boxes of the full-bodied Diesel Atonement Toro have been made. The cigar comes in 10-count, novel-inspired boxes that began shipping this week to TAA retailers.
Diesel Atonement Toro (6” x 52); SRP per cigar $10
The cigar is dark brown with a nice feel in the hand.
The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up were cedar, apple, brown sugar, a ton of leather, and black coffee. There was black pepper rated at 8 to 8 1/2. The cigar tastes very full and I'd say it's full body in strength right now. Quite a powerful tasting, leathery start.
At the first third (30 minutes) there was light citrus, light cedar, light brown sugar, a lot of leather, and a lot of black coffee. The cigar is full bodied. The finish is leather with good lingering black pepper. The black pepper has toned down to 7 to 7 1/2. I rated the first third 91.
Moving through the second third (53 minutes) the leather and black coffee have increased. There are minor hints of citrus and brown sugar and massive amounts of leather and black coffee with earthiness. The cigar is full bodied. The finish is unchanged. I rated the second third 87.
The cigar lasted 1 hour 15 minutes. The flavors settled down and did not change. Still very heavy on leather and earthy black coffee. Still full bodied. Finish is unchanged. If you like bold, full bodied, leathery cigars give this one a try. I held the score of 87.
