La Gloria Cubana Serie S Robusto Gordo (5.5” x 56)

(Description provided by Forged Cigar Co.)

La Gloria Cubana has debuted a new, full-time collection. Named “Serie S,” the line marks the first time a Mexican wrapper will be featured in a La Gloria blend.

Steve Abbot, director of marketing for La Gloria Cubana said, “Serie S combines large-ring formats, expert blending and fine craftsmanship in a medium-to-full-bodied smoke. We believe this new collection will be a well-received addition to the brand portfolio.”

For Serie S, the La Gloria Cubana blending team selected a Mexican San Andrés wrapper which is grown in potassium-rich volcanic soil. Following a prolonged, low-temperature fermentation, the Serie S wrapper bears a warm, golden brown color that hints at the slightly sweet, earthy qualities it imparts on the smoking experience. With a Nicaraguan binder and blend of Nicaraguan and Dominican filler tobacco, La Gloria Cubana Serie S also delivers leather, light spice and a pleasant aroma.

La Gloria Cubana Serie S is handcrafted at the El Credito Cigar Factory in Santiago, Dominican Republic.

La Gloria Cubana Serie S will debut with three sizes, packed in bold black cabinet-style boxes that each house 24 cigars.

The cigar is very dark and well made. It has a nice feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was pretty good but it had some firmness. The initial flavors at light up were a cedary citrus peel, some brown sugar, and quite a bit of black coffee. There was black pepper rated at 7 1/2. Not a great start but we have time for things to develope.

At the first third (35 minutes) the cigar has greatly improved. Now there's a cedary peach, quite a bit of brown sugar, and quite a bit of earthy black coffee. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is primarily peach with some brown sugar and good lingering black pepper. The cigar is much better now that it was at light up. I rated the first third 93.

Moving through the second third (1 hour 12 minutes) the black coffee is becoming elevated and it has some earthiness. The peach and brown sugar notes are in the moderate category. The cigar is now full bodied. The finish is faint peach notes and black coffee with very good lingering black pepper. I rated the second third 90.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 34 minutes. The cigar didn't change from the second third through the final third. I still had moderate peach and brown sugar with elevated earthy black coffee. The cigar is full bodied and the finish did not change. I held 90 for the final third. For the first maduro La Gloria Cubana I had high hopes for this cigar but for me it's just ok.

Overall Score: 91
