(Description taken from cigar-coop.com website)

Viaje has announced the fifth installment of its Craft Series known as New Beginnings.  For this release, Viaje returns to the Dominican Republic teaming up with Hostos Fernandez Quesada of Tabacalera La Isla.

New Beginnings features a San Andres wrapper over Dominican binder and fillers. The cigar comes in one size – a 6 x 52 Toro – each presented in ten-count boxes. The Craft Series is a line that draws its inspiration from the craft beer business. According to Viaje, each release of the Craft Series will involve incorporating some of the best tobaccos from chosen factories. As with all Viaje releases, New Beginnings is a small-batch limited production run.

The following are the five installments of the Viaje Craft Series:

Viaje Craft Series Bales on Bales

Viaje Craft Series For the Love of the Leaf

Viaje Craft Series: Wilshire and La Jolla

The cigar is dark and has a nice feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was good. The initial flavors at light up took a couple minutes to settle down but they were a little citrus, citrus peel, oily nutmeg, earthy leather, and black coffee. There was black pepper rated at 7. Not a bad start.

At the first third (29 minutes) the ash was still intact. The citrus notes are coming out a little more. There's still citrus peel, brown sugar, light leather, and earthy black coffee. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish is black coffee with good lingering black pepper. The cigar is interesting. It's intriguing. It's not great but something about it is appealing. I rated the first third 92.

Moving through the second third (1 hour 14 minutes) the cigar had an increase in earthiness, but not too much. I still had the citrus, citrus peel, and brown sugar, but there's a little more earthiness and a little more black coffee to go along with the light leather. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is black coffee with good lingering black pepper. The cigar continues to be intriguing. I rated the second third 91.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 45 minutes. A great burn time. When you smoke this cigar slowly you get some nice notes. The cigar was very similar to the way it was in the second third but the black pepper was way up. It's around 8 now. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is leather and black coffee with good lingering black pepper. I rated the final third 92. This isn't a great cigar but it's very intriguing.

Overall Score: 91.67
