DISSIDENT Cigars announces the return of HOME, a yearly Limited Edition Cigar that was put on a temporary hold when the Coburn’s acquired DISSIDENT Cigars in December of 2021.
The DISSIDENT HOME 2023 marks the 4th release of the HOME since 2019. Keeping with tradition, the HOME 2023 consists of an Ecuadorian Maduro & Corojo barber-pole wrapper, Ecuadorian binder, and all-Nicaraguan fillers. Like years preceding, the HOME 2023 will be available in a 6x52 box-pressed Toro.
MSRP: $14.00
Owner/blender Cynn Coburn says “With thanks to the previous brand owner, the HOME has always been a highly anticipated release for DISSIDENT fans since 2019, and I’m excited to bring this beloved cigar back after a year hiatus! It’s a tradition that needs to continue. We made minor changes to the box artwork and big changes to the label artwork that we are truly stoked about! If you feel like you don’t belong, it means you belong with us. Welcome HOME!”
The cigar is well made and looks very nice with the barber-pole wrapper. It has a nice feel in the hand.
The test draw after cutting the cap was good with a touch of firmness. The initial flavors at light up were a citrus/pear, brown sugar, earthiness, and leathery black coffee. There was black pepper rated at 7 1/2 to 8. Pretty good start.
At the first third (27 minutes) not much had changed other than I got faint notes of toffee from time to time. Other than that the other notes were still in play. The cigar is medium bodied. The finish is brown sugar and black coffee with good lingering black pepper. The flavor mix is something that appeals to me. I rated the first third 94.
As I moved through the second third (54 minutes) I had those flashes of toffee. And like in the first third not much changed. At the midpoint of the cigar it had the most earthiness but it started to move downward by the end of the second third. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish had hints of citrus, pear, brown sugar, and earthiness with very good lingering black pepper. I held 94 for the second third.
The cigar lasted 1 hour 12 minutes. For some reason the sweet notes decreased a little. The earthiness and leathery black coffee did not increase. It's like the sweet notes simply faded. The cigar is medium to full bodied. The finish is unchanged. The dip in sweet notes caused me to lower the score to 93. This is definitely a good cigar. A little hard to find but well worth the search.
