United Cigars Maduro Robusto (5 x 54)

Video review HERE.

(Description provided by United Cigars)

United Cigars has enhanced their flagship United Cigars Line and will now be rolled in the traditional round shape. United Cigars is not just the name of the company, or their flagship brand, it is an American Icon. The company’s rich origins stretch back over a century, delivering unique experiences to cigar enthusiasts since 1901. Since reigniting United Cigars in 2010, it has been their mission to continue improving on their products and services to their retail partners and consumers.

“This was a spiritual re-discovery of how beautiful Dominican tobacco can be,” said Oliver Nivaud, United Cigars Director of Operations. “Every bale we opened offered a new life to the blend.”

The enhanced blend uses Dominican Broadleaf and tobaccos from the Quisqueya region of the Dominican Republic. Previously featured in a soft box press format, both the United Natural and Maduro blends will now be in the round format with the enriched blend moving forward.

The cigar is quite dark and well made. It has a nice feel in the hand.

The test draw after cutting the cap was very good. The initial flavors at light up were cedar, brown sugar, dry cocoa, and dark chocolate. There was black pepper rated at 7 1/2. Pretty good start.

At the first third (29 minutes) the notes have morphed over to a cedar/citrus, brown sugar, citrus peel, and dark chocolate. The citrus notes are defined and the citrus peel is sharp. The finish is dark chocolate with good lingering black pepper. The cigar is medium bodied. The flavors are working well together. I rated the first third 93.

As I moved through the second third (56 minutes) not much changed. The dark chocolate is a little more noticeable and the cedar, citrus, brown sugar, and citrus peel have combined to make a swirl of flavors in one. The finish is unchanged. The cigar is still medium bodied. I find the cigar to be equally as appealing as the first third. I held the score of 93.

The cigar lasted 1 hour 15 minutes. The mass of sweeter flavors dropped a little while the dark chocolate made a little increase. The cigar is still medium bodied. The finish is unchanged. This is a good cigar. I rated the final third 92.

Overall Score: 92.67
